What's our need?
Seattle Pacific University is hiring a Biology Lab Coordinator to support the teaching mission of the Biology Department by ensuring that all instructional labs are prepared, safe, and well-equipped. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a scientific setting, has a hands-on approach, and enjoys mentoring student workers. This position works full time for 10 months and then half time for 2 months during the summer.
What will you do?
As the Biology Lab Coordinator you will:
Prepare solutions and set up equipment for biology experiments and labs.
Supervise and train student Teaching Assistants.
Ensure safety regulations and chemical & biological hygiene protocols are followed in all instructional labs.
Collect, log, and manage hazardous waste and biological waste weekly.
Maintain clean and organized lab spaces; perform minor repairs on instruments.
Monitor lab inventory and coordinate orders for supplies and equipment with the Lab Manager.
Collaborate with the Chemistry lab coordinator to coordinate shared equipment usage.
Perform annual tasks such as a deep lab cleaning, physical inventory of chemicals and glassware, and complete required RCRA and DOT trainings.
Assist chemistry lab coordination and supply/equipment pickups as needed.
Complete other duties as assigned by the Lab Manager.
What will you bring?
We're looking for someone with:
A Bachelor's degree in Biology.
Demonstrated hands-on laboratory experience in microbiology, either through academic coursework or professional roles.
Familiarity with scientific equipment, including microscopes, pH meters, balances, micropipettes, and Spectronic 20s.
Strong organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
Comfort supervising and mentoring student workers.
Physical ability to lift and carry 40 - 50 pounds.

Compensation: $24.00 - $25.50 per hour, DOE
This position works full time for 10 months and then half time for 2 months during the summer. Biology coordinators are offered the SPU benefits package for full time employees that includes:
