Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC)

Position Overview:

This position works under the supervision of a Licensed Practitioner to provide individual and group substance use counseling services to adults participating in the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). The IOP CSAC supports the development and implementation of person-centered treatment plans, monitors and documents participant progress toward recovery goals, and delivers evidence-based interventions designed to promote sustained recovery and improved functioning.

As a member of each participant's interdisciplinary treatment team, the IOP CSAC collaborates closely with substance use and mental health case managers, counselors, psychiatric service providers, peer recovery specialists, and other care professionals to ensure coordinated and effective service delivery. The position may also provide care coordination and linkage to community resources to support continuity of care and successful transitions throughout treatment and recovery.

This position requires the incumbent to possess or obtain certification as a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) within 18 months of hire. Applicants must possess the education, qualifications, and experience necessary to begin accruing supervised experience hours toward CSAC certification upon hire.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in either social work, psychology, psychiatric rehabilitation, sociology, counseling, vocational rehabilitation, or human services counseling required
  • One year of clinical experience working with individuals with co-occurring diagnoses of substance use disorders and mental illness
  • One year of substance use related professional experience providing services to individuals with a diagnosis of substance use disorder OR be a Board-Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) in Virginia
