Job Description:

The University of Northern Iowa’s Department of Social Work seeks applications for a two-year term Clinical Assistant Professor position, starting in August 2026. The appointment may be extended after the initial two year term. There is an additional opportunity for the successful candidate to begin in June 2026 to teach the MSW course DSM: Balancing Strengths and Differential Diagnosis. UNI is a comprehensive institution known for its high-quality undergraduate and graduate programs. We seek a dedicated practitioner-educator committed to excellence in teaching and service. 

Job Duties and Responsibilities: 

This position is primarily focused on teaching and service, with a workload distribution of 80% Teaching and 20% Service.

Teaching (80%): Carry a 4x4 teaching load (four courses per semester). Instruction will occur at both the BSW and MSW levels. Candidates must be prepared to deliver high-quality instruction across multiple modalities, including online, in-person, and hybrid formats.

Service (20%): Participate in departmental, university, and community service activities. This includes student advising, committee work, and supporting the mission of the Social Work department.

Summer Opportunity: Potential for additional 1/9th salary per class for summer teaching assignments based on departmental needs.

Required Qualifications:

Master of Social Work (MSW) from a CSWE-accredited program; at least two full years of post-MSW practice experience; and ability to demonstrate teaching effectiveness required. 

Preferred Qualifications:

Current Social Work License; specific expertise or practice experience in addictions and/or macro practice; and demonstrated experience in post-secondary education teaching preferred.
