Job Summary

The Coordinator, Compensation & Classification supports the administration of the university's classification and compensation programs. The coordinator utilizes independent judgment to provide technical and administrative guidance to internal and external university partners. This position assists in ensuring the consistent application of classification and compensation practices while supporting compliance with applicable policies, procedures, and regulations.

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Supports the administration of the university's classification structure and compensation programs.
  • Consults with university partners to assess business needs and provides recommendations based on career progression, talent attraction and retention strategies, applicable employment laws, and university policies and guidelines.
  • Conducts compensation analyses and recommends salary actions, including reclassifications, temporary additional duties and interim appointments, market adjustments, merit increases, and discretionary salary increases.
  • Partners with the Talent Acquisition team to review employment offers and counteroffers, ensuring alignment with internal equity and market competitiveness.
  • Reviews requests for new positions, position modifications, and reclassifications to evaluate job scope, classification, pay grade, and alignment with the university's job family structure.
  • Develops and delivers compensation and classification training and educational resources for university partners.
  • Participates in compensation and salary surveys by benchmarking positions, gathering and validating data, and submitting survey responses within established deadlines.
  • Compiles, maintains, and analyzes compensation data within third-party compensation software and related systems.
  • Assists with compensation and classification initiatives and special projects, including competitive market studies, annual salary increase and promotion processes, job profile maintenance, and continuous process improvement efforts.

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:

  • This position requires either six years of directly related full-time experience or, as an alternative, a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of full-time experience directly related to the job functions.
  • Full-time experience in Human Resources, business administration, or closely related area. 
  • Experience with personal computers using Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in higher education environment.
  • Working knowledge of Human Resources Information Systems such as Workday.

  • Knowledge of and ability to apply human resources principles, concepts, and practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects within deadlines.
  • Skill in identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build strategic relations with colleagues, coworkers, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with university faculty, staff, students, and the general public.
  • Ability to interact in a professional manner with staff, faculty, students, and the community in a service-oriented environment.
  • Ability to develop and deliver training presentations and programs.
  • Ability to work successfully as both a member of a team and independently.
  • Ability to take initiative to plan, organize, coordinate and perform work when numerous and competing demands are involved.
