Job DetailsJob Location: Lexington, MS 39095Position Type: Full TimeJob Summary:  The Physician (Family Medicine) works as part of the medical provider team providing medical services to the patients of the Community Health Center. In addition, physicians (Family Medicine), unless specifically exempted by the Chief Medical Officer, shall be qualified to serve on the Medical Staff of a local hospital, provide inpatient care services, assume “on call” after-hours responsibilities, and assist community health center mid-level providers. The Physician (Family Medicine) diagnoses, treats, and prescribes specialized medical treatment services to patients. Physician (Family Medicine) directs and supervises nursing staff.    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:   Provide or arrange for comprehensive primary care services in a primary medical care ambulatory clinic setting, including laboratory and diagnostic workup, and specialty referrals. Works independently using his or her best professional judgment while practicing medicine at Mallory CHC within his or her scope of practice. Works interdependently with other health care providers and health care staff in a team environment.    Perform minor outpatient procedures in accordance with Mallory CHC credentialing/privileging policy.    Provide consultation to other clinic providers either in person or by telephone.   Consult with and coordinate patient care with clinic physicians, covering community primary care physicians, specialists, pharmacists, nurses, or other health care professionals as appropriate.   Assess patient needs and arrange for specialty referrals, diagnostic and inpatient care, and make appropriate referrals for service.    Responsible for accurate, timely, and complete documentation in patient records in accordance with Mallory CHC policy.  Provide patients and family members with counseling and education regarding health maintenance, disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and need for follow-up as appropriate during each patient visit. Verify and document that the patient understands diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up recommendations.    Renders care to Mallory CHC patients in accordance with quality and standards as are established by Mallory CHC, the standards of care prevailing in the community, applicable law, and according to state and federal grant requirements for non-discrimination regardless of status, race, sex, religion, national origin, handicap, age, or ability to pay.  Provide clinical supervision and appropriate training of ancillary health care staff to assure quality of care for Mallory CHC patients in coordination with Chief Clinical Officer and nursing staff.  Participate in Mallory CHC Quality Improvement activities including Chronic Care Collaborative programs, immunization improvement initiatives, pharmacy formulary development and utilization, and any other medical staff committee activities relating to peer review, risk management, or development of clinical policies and procedures.   Participate in audits as required by state and national accreditation entities in order for Mallory CHC to meet and maintain all necessary standards and requirements.  Maintenance of credentials essential for practice, to include licensure, certification, and CME.    Attend all required staff meetings, provider meetings, and participate in Mallory CHC’s committees or task force activities as directed by the Medical Director.  Perform other necessary duties as required by the Community Health Center to meet the goals of providing primary health care.  QualificationsKnowledge, Skills, & Abilities (KSA’s):  Ability to diagnose and treat conditions within the scope of family practice medicine  Knowledge and understanding of the principles and standards of clinical practice in family medicine  Thorough knowledge of health promotion and disease prevention strategies  Ability to work as a team member, establishing and maintaining effective relationships with patients and other staff.  Exhibit cultural sensitivity  Experience in dealing with medically underserved populations and cultural competency  Ability to coordinate care with physicians and other allied health and social service providers  Ability to provide consultation to midlevel providers (e.g., Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants)  Excellent oral and written communication, problem-solving, and negotiation skills    Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:   Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) from an accredited School of Medicine or Osteopathy  Completion of an accredited residency program in area of practice (e.g., family practice, internal medicine, or pediatrics   Certifications/Licenses:  Physician license (MD/DO) with the State of Mississippi  Board eligible/Board certified by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA) in Family Practice, Internal Medicine, or Pediatrics  Active DEA controlled substances registration  Hospital privileges - must be obtained within 60 days of employment  Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (CPR/AED) certification   Successful completion of Mallory CHC’s credentialing and privileging review upon hire and re-credentialing as appropriate   EEO Statement: Mallory Community Health Center is an equal opportunity employer and a drug-free workplace.    Americans with Disabilities: Mallory Community Health Center complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations as applicable.  The above information is intended to describe the most important aspects of the job.
