Registered Nurse CVICUĀ 

Unit Description:Ā 

2H ICU is a 12-bed Cardiovascular and Thoracic Critical Care Unit. Primarily serving adult and geriatric post-op cardiovascular and thoracic surgeries (CABG, Valve Replacement/Repair, TAVR, Bronch/Thor, and other thoracic and vascular surgeries). This unitĀ also cares for general surgery post-op requiring intensive care, Pre and post critical cardiac Cath lab interventions, post cardiac arrest, sepsis, and complex care ICU patients. Ā 2HICU also provides care for patients on multiple devices such as ECMO, Impella, IABP, and CVVHD/CRRT.Ā  RNs from this unit respond to all south tower Rapid Response and Code Blue emergencies. 2H may also take overflow from the other ICUs.

Job Description:Ā 

The Registered Nurse (RN) implements professional nursing practice centered on the patient as a whole person and the creation of a caring environment focused on healing and wellness.Ā 

  • S/he honors patients’ mind, body and spirit by respecting human dignity and the uniqueness of each individual.Ā 

  • Nursing practices are based on evidence and current research as well as hospital and department policies and procedures, regulatory standards, and professional guidelines.Ā 

  • Clinical decision-making incorporates all four phases of the nursing process, critical thinking, and creativity.Ā 

  • Nursing excellence is promoted through helping relationships among nursing staff and across other disciplines.Ā 

  • R is an exemplar for compassion, acceptance, respect, and empathy honoring nursing as a distinct discipline and supporting an environment focused on healing and wellness.Ā 

  • As a clinical nurse, this individual spends majority of his/her time (> 50%) coordinating, ensuring, and providing direct patient care activities on the unit through: provision of nursing rounds, assessments and treatments; facilitating admission, transfer and discharge activities; provision of patient and family-centered education; care coordination and individualized treatment planning as applicable, etc.Ā 

Minimum Education, Experience, Training and Licensures Required:Ā 

  • Current RN licensure or work permit in Kentucky.Ā 

  • Bachelor's or an associate degree in nursing from an accredited college/university.Ā 

  • Those with an associate degree in nursing and less than 10 years of experience must enroll within 12 months of hire in a bachelor’s degree program and must have achieved the degree within 5 years.Ā 

  • Basic Life Support- Applicants will have 30 days from their hired date to provide completion of this certification if they don’t have it already.Ā 

  • ACLS/PALS/NRP and successful completion of dysrhythmia class as required by department of Assignment.Ā
