Where You’ll Work

As an ER Nurse CHI Saint Joseph Health, you’ll be the first touchpoint to the people in our community during health emergencies.

 

No two days in emergency nursing are ever the same. You’re a multitasker who can react quickly as you’ll prioritize patients based on their medical necessity while you’re providing emergency triage to others. As part of our ER team, you’ll partner with an experienced clinical team to deliver stabilizing care to our patients by performing IV starts, foley catheter insertions, or aiding providers with chest tube insertions.

More than anything, you should be energetic and motivated to provide quality care to all of our patients, maintaining their dignity at every step. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Use emergency triage protocol to intake, discharge or admit patients.
  • Deliver stabilizing care to emergency patients of all ages as part of the larger ER team, adapting care to changes in patient’s condition as needed.
  • Use knowledge of cultural differences to provide patient care that is sensitive to and consistent with cultural values, beliefs, and customs. Document the nursing care plan and changes in the patient's condition.
  • Engage in other activities that will benefit patient outcomes, such as patient experience initiatives, mentoring, etc.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

This position is eligible for up to a $25,000 sign-on bonus AND up to $24,000 Student Loan Assistance

As our RN Emergency Services you will be responsible for the daily patient care operations of the assigned department, working under the direction of the Nurse Manager on assigned shifts.  Responsible for daily patient care assignments, maintaining clinical standards of care, maintaining labor productivity and supervision of the patient care environment; supporting the care team.  Supports the activities of the Nurse Manager.  Maintains positive inter- and intra-departmental relationships.  Directs patient throughput activities in the assigned unit. Maintains evidence-based nursing practices to achieve desirable patient outcomes in accordance with the Kentucky Nurse Practice Act.

Essential Key Job Responsibilities

  • Provides direct supervision of personnel practicing on Nursing Units, makes patient care assignments, evaluates assignments, facilitates patient throughout, and directly observes staff performance on their assigned shift.
  • Proactively matches existing resources seeking ways to provide patient care that supports staff and maintains a therapeutic environment.
  • Monitors productivity and assures that staffing and resources are aligned with patient care needs.
  • Communicates personnel related concerns to the Unit Manager.
  • Uses a logical, systematic approach to problems and problem-solving.

    Job Requirements

    Required Education and Experience

    • Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN/ASN) from an accredited school of nursing.

     

    Required Licensure and Certifications

    • Current RN license in the State of Kentucky
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) via the American Heart Association (AHA)
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) via the American Heart Association (AHA) within 3 months of hire
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) via the American Heart Association (AHA) within 6 months of hire
    • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) within 12 months of hire

     

    PREFERRED Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN)
    • Previous nursing experience in Telemetry, Cardiac, Emergency or Critical Care service lines
