Job Type: Full-time

If you're ready to run a shift end-to-end — open to close, customer to crew, coach to call — read on.

Five Guys is one of the few quick-service spots that's still actually fresh. No frozen patties. Hand-cut fries. Hand-prepped to order. We're hiring Shift Managers at our {{location_name}} location.

WHAT THE WORK ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE

You're the manager on duty. The entire shift is yours — every station, every subdepartment, every decision. Shift Leaders and crew look to you for the call. You enforce food safety, run cash management, handle customer recovery, and solve whatever problems come up — equipment, scheduling, staffing, you name it. Lunch and dinner rushes are when this role earns its keep — you keep the team locked in and the standards visible.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Own your shift from start to finish — help facilitate shift changes and closes
  • Oversee the entire shift and all subdepartments — kitchen, line, register, dining room, back-of-house
  • Lead pre-shift huddles, set the day's focus, debrief at shift change
  • Enforce food safety and quality control — every order goes out at the Five Guys standard
  • Handle cash management — drops, deposits, drawer counts, banking
  • Handle customer issues directly — that's the SM call, not the crew's
  • Coach Shift Leaders and crew in real-time
  • Communicate clearly with the AM and GM about how the shift ran

WHO YOU ARE

  • 1+ year of restaurant management experience required
  • Open availability required — weekends, mornings, and closing shifts
  • Available to open or close the store when needed
  • You make decisions when nobody else is around to ask
  • You're comfortable coaching, correcting, and developing your team
  • ServSafe Manager certification preferred (we provide training and cover the cert if you don't have it)
  • Stamina to stand a full shift and lift up to 50 lbs occasionally

WHAT YOU EARN

  • Period performance bonus — paid every 4 weeks when the store hits grade
  • Secret shopper bonuses — when your shift scores a perfect customer experience, you get paid extra on your next paycheck
  • Two weeks of paid vacation per year
  • Free Five Guys meal every shift
  • Paid training, including ServSafe certification
  • Referral bonus when you bring in someone who gets hired

WHERE THIS GOES

The path from here is Assistant Manager, then General Manager. Most of our AMs and GMs came up through Shift Manager. Your General Manager isn't a corporate trainee passing through — they're invested in this store and in your career here. We also run three locally-owned Five Guys stores in the Lexington area, so if your situation changes, you can transfer to a different location instead of starting over somewhere new.

Apply now. We're hiring year-round.

Company Introduction

Five Guys Burgers and Fries is one of America's most successful hamburger concepts, not just for its food, ranked the #1 burger in America by the Zagat survey, but also because of its employees.
We have a unique work environment where you're trained to work every position in the restaurant. From the register, to the grill, to morning prep and evening close, our crew members become a team working in all aspects of the restaurant.
We also have a unique crew bonus program that provides the opportunity to earn cash bonuses two times per week giving our crew members the opportunity to earn much higher incomes.
We have an open kitchen experience so it's fun and it's loud with lots of team communication. The crew's burger creation is part of the customer experience.
