The position reports to the Chair of Dental Public Health and collaborates with the Offices of Community Health and Clinical Affairs in the development and implementation of the clinical and academic components to align teaching, learning, and assessment with relevant accreditation standards. The position will include didactic, pre-clinical, clinical instruction and course development integrating general dentistry and public health disciplines; supervising pre-doctoral students; community outreach activities; and participation in college, school, and community service.

Essential Functions (Principal Duties and Job Responsibilities):

Work closely with the Chair of Dental Public Health in course development and teaching with respect to dental public health as it relates to clinical dentistry, community and population health, health services delivery, oral health and oral health disparities. Teaching responsibilities include clinical instruction and didactic courses to dental students to integrated across predoctoral education. Supervising dental students on the mobile dental unit. Develop programs to involve and supervise dental students, residents, and faculty in research activities opportunities when applicable. The position may work closely with external partners and other schools assigned by Department Chair

Maintaining and updating institutional training and other academic documents. Assist in preparing curriculum guides and coordinating academic-administrative tracking.
Participation in community service outreach activities.
Attend meetings and represent the school to external constituencies as requested by the Chair of Dental Public Health as appropriate.
Serve on relevant college, school and departments committees. Seek to serve on committees and boards for professional societies and associations
Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

Experience teaching activities may include didactic, clinical, delivery of continuing education or professional development courses, invited lectures, workshops, and seminars.
Strong general dentistry clinical skills.
Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Education and Experience Required:

DDS, DMD or equivalent from an accredited institution and have successfully completed the NBDE Parts I & II or the INBDE.
Master’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology or Behavioral Science.
State of Tennessee dental licensed or the ability to be licensed in the State of Tennessee.
Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in dentistry.

Education and Experience Preferred:

Preference will be given to those with additional education and/or experience in a public health program or community-based settings.
Experience in applying academic dental education to the Community Service-Learning Center model.
Experience on the mobile dental unit supervising dental students.
Experience collaborating with colleagues to develop research initiatives.

Licensure, Certification or Registration Required:

CPR or BLS Certification
