JOB SUMMARY:
SVSU invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of English to begin July 1, 2026. Applicants must have acquired their Ph.D. in Linguistics or a closely related field by the time of appointment. The successful candidate will demonstrate expertise and experience in teaching developmental and first-year courses in academic writing and/or reading and undergraduate courses in English linguistics and the teaching of English to speakers of other languages (TESOL). Teaching responsibilities are in-person, on-campus (24 credit hours/year), with limited online teaching possible. Candidates should also demonstrate promise as a scholar in one or more of the areas above. Other responsibilities include departmental and university service and student advising.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Earned PhD from an accredited institution in Linguistics or a closely related field. ABD will be considered if the Ph.D. is completed by July 1, 2026.
- Experience and ability to positively interact with all members of the campus community
Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Relevant teaching experience at the university level
- Experience working with English language learners
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Duties are generally performed inside and not exposed to adverse conditions.
