Job Description

This posting is for a part-time, non-benefited, 12-month, 19 hours per week, non-exempt position. The position is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of athletic facilities, campus grounds and other University owned property, trash pickup, general maintenance, transportation, and servicing of University equipment and vehicles.

Essential Functions

This position requires regular, as scheduled, reliable attendance in the campus environment.

  • Mowing and trimming of grounds.

  • Landscape maintenance including fertilizer application.

  • Snow removal.

  • Equipment/ vehicle maintenance.

  • Trash pickup.

  • Supervising and job planning of student and summer helper.

  • Obtain or possess a Class A or Class B CDL with passenger endorsement.

  • Athletic field maintenance.

  • Irrigation system management.

  • Flower maintenance.

  • Farm transportation substitute.

  • Perform all other duties deemed appropriate for the position.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position may have student workers to manage.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at campus job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. 

Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to have full range of mobility in upper and lower body; be able to reach overhead; be able to work in various positions, including stooping, standing, bending over, sitting, kneeling and squatting for extended periods of time; be able to lift, pull and push materials and equipment to complete assigned job tasks; and be able to frequently lift 50 pounds of weight throughout the assigned workday.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a part-time 6-12-month position, not to exceed 999 hours per year, and general hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This position may require evening and weekend work.

Travel

Travel is not an expectation of this position.  A valid driver’s license and a safe driving record required. 

Required Education and Experience

High school diploma.

Preferred Education and Experience

Some grounds and equipment experience.
