The primary purpose of this position is to provide training in and experience with community-engaged research as a way to address the disproportionate health burdens experienced by racial/ethnic minorities. The position will also serve as way to gain relevant training and experience necessary for developing an independent research career. The training and experience will be gained as part of leading the following within the Meharry Community Engagement Core in collaboration with the Meharry-Vanderbilt Community-Engaged Research Core.

Daily Operations

  • Promote and enhance community engagement in research
  • Disseminate research results to the community
  • Develop and implement and independent community engagement research project
  • Submit first-authored research manuscripts based on research efforts and activities above and in collaboration with faculty mentors
  • Present research at local and national conferences
  • Participate in various professional development seminars/trainings
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

                                                                                                                             

Required Skills

  • Knowledge of computing software and tools
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Self-motivated, organized, and flexible
  • Able to work independently when required

Required Education and Experience

  • Completed doctoral degree in a public health, community health, or related scientific field is required.
  • Prior community engagement and/or community-engaged research experience
  • Prior health disparities research-related experience
