Who we’re looking for

Toyota’s Production Engineering (PE)-Battery Manufacturing Engineering (BME) Battery Cell Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Engineer (Battery Production Engineering) to join our Ryohin Joken (Conditions for Good Process and Product) advancement and problem-solving group. 

Reporting to Engineering Manager the person in this role will support the PE-BME Battery Cell Department's mission to deliver engineering solutions for rapid competitiveness improvements through safety first, people development, and customer focus. 

The primary responsibility of this role is leading planning and problem-solving efforts in pre-production trial activity.  Utilizing and improving systems & procedures for efficient and effective issue identification, root cause analysis, issue resolution, and reoccurrence prevention / kaizen to subsequent activity and projects.

This role will also contribute to the success of developing organization’s capabilities through advancement and application of Ryohin Joken knowledge and skill. 

What you’ll be doing

  • Member of cross-functional team collaborating with equipment 

  • Engage and resolve material, product, and process issues both internal and external

  • Create and implement working/trial plans for confirmation of problem-solving activities

  • Create detailed technical and summary reports for organizational learning and development

  • Input to process and equipment plan/specification for kaizen and issue reoccurrence prevention 

  • Use and advancement of systems and procedure for problem solving and learning capture

  • Individual activity management, status visualization/reporting, and incremental reflection 

  • Participate in internal & external partner relationships aligning to team objectives, development, and support 

  • Activity related to PE-BME Department-level Hoshin for organizational advancement

  • Individual support for standardization and kaizen (continuous improvement) of department systems and processes

  • Drive own individual development, seek feedback, and monitor progress

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Engineering (Chemical Engineering or similar technical field) or 5+ years of equivalent professional engineering experience in a manufacturing environment

  • Experience in manufacturing production preparation role and schedule/deliverable management including stages of project plan, process/equipment plan, specification & procurement, installation and trial (2 years required)

  • Experience in battery cell product, processes/equipment, and/or trial activities (1+ year required)

  • Experience in activity of Ryohin Joken identification, application, and/or confirmation (Ryohin Joken means Conditions for Good Process and Product)

  • Experience coordinating with varied functions in large corporate organizations, including production engineering, manufacturing, research and development, or similar, and reporting out to senior leadership level

  • Experience in interpreting and applying product/process specifications, drawings, etc.

  • Ability for weekend, holiday, and shutdown work, overtime up to 25%, and travel (domestic and international) up to 15%  

Added bonus if you have

  • Experience in application of Toyota Production System (TPS)

  • Experience in product x process/equipment simultaneous engineering for new model

  • Documented problem-solving certification or completed activity such as Toyota Business Practice (TBP), Fault Tree Analysis, or similar

  • Experience in manufacturing plant production operations role

  • Experience in data analytics tools and methods

  • Experience in digital engineering software tools and procedures, including the ability to read, interpret and modify model data

  • Japanese language proficiency including verbal and written
