Make an Impact in a Hands-On Manufacturing Environment

Sheridan is seeking an experienced Human Resources Generalist II to join our team in Liberty, Missouri. This is an excellent opportunity for a well-rounded HR professional who enjoys being close to the business, working directly with employees and leaders, and taking ownership of the full scope of Human Resources responsibilities.

Our Liberty facility employs approximately 220 full-time employees, along with a flexible temporary workforce that supports changing production needs. You’ll work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment where HR plays an important role in attracting and retaining employees, supporting supervisors, strengthening employee relations, and helping the operation succeed.

This position offers an especially strong opportunity for an experienced HR Generalist ready for greater responsibility. Our HR Manager is currently on leave and is expected to return in early 2027. During this period, the HR Generalist II will take on increased responsibility for the day-to-day HR needs of the facility while working closely with and receiving support from Corporate HR leadership. You will also provide day-to-day direction to an HR Coordinator who supports recruiting, onboarding, and other HR activities.

Upon the HR Manager’s return, this position will continue as a key member of the facility HR team.

What You’ll Do

This is a true HR Generalist role with exposure to virtually every aspect of Human Resources. You’ll partner with employees, supervisors, plant leadership, and Corporate HR to:

  • Provide day-to-day HR support to employees and leaders across the facility.
  • Coach and assist supervisors with employee relations, attendance, performance management, corrective action, and workplace concerns.
  • Independently handle employee relations matters and workplace investigations, involving Corporate HR leadership when appropriate.
  • Provide day-to-day direction to the temporary HR Coordinator and work together to ensure recruiting, onboarding, and other HR priorities are completed effectively.
  • Recruit, interview, and help select qualified candidates for production, technical, and professional positions.
  • Coordinate onboarding and orientation and help create a positive experience for new employees.
  • Support employee retention and engagement efforts.
  • Administer and coordinate FMLA and other employee leaves, disability programs, workers’ compensation, benefits, and other HR programs.
  • Help ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and company policies.
  • Maintain accurate employee records and HRIS information.
  • Support training, performance management, compensation, and talent management activities.
  • Partner with management to communicate HR policies, practices, and workplace expectations.
  • Use HR data and metrics such as recruiting activity and turnover to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Support safety initiatives and work collaboratively with plant and Corporate Safety leadership.
  • Assist with employee communications, recognition activities, and other programs that strengthen the employee experience.
  • Respond to employee concerns and help resolve workplace issues professionally, consistently, and promptly.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for an experienced HR professional who has developed a strong Generalist foundation and is ready to take ownership of a broad HR role.

Qualifications include:

  • 5+ years of progressive Human Resources experience, including significant experience in employee relations and supporting an hourly workforce.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant HR experience.
  • Solid working knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and HR best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently handle employee relations, performance management, workplace investigations, leave administration, and other day-to-day HR matters while knowing when to appropriately escalate complex issues.
  • Experience recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and supporting workforce staffing needs.
  • Strong judgment and problem-solving skills with the confidence to advise employees, supervisors, and managers on HR matters.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build credibility at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong organization, follow-through, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to balance competing priorities in a fast-moving environment.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality.

Even better if you have:

  • Previous HR experience in manufacturing, distribution, printing, or another operational environment.
  • Strong experience coaching front-line supervisors and handling employee relations in an hourly workforce.
  • Experience providing work direction, mentoring, or leadership to other HR team members.
  • Experience with Affirmative Action requirements and applicant tracking.
  • PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification.

Why Sheridan?

If you’re looking for an HR position where you can do more than administer programs, this is an opportunity to become an important partner to the operation. You’ll have significant interaction with employees and leaders, exposure to the full range of HR responsibilities, and the opportunity to make a visible impact on the workplace.

For the right HR professional, the initial period while our HR Manager is on leave provides a unique opportunity to operate with increased responsibility, provide direction to another HR team member, and further develop your HR leadership capabilities, while having the resources and support of an experienced Corporate HR team.

When our HR Manager returns, you’ll continue in a broad HR Generalist II role as an important member of the facility’s HR team.

If you’re an experienced HR Generalist who enjoys solving problems, helping people succeed, and partnering with leaders in a hands-on manufacturing environment, we’d like to hear from you.
