Assistant Project Manager (APM)



Reports to: Project Manager/Senior Project Manager

FLSA Status: Exempt

Hours: 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM (One (1) Hour Lunch) unless otherwise dictated by Project Manager; 45-50-hour work week

Job Location: Lima, OH 45807; Jobsites as assigned, this position is primarily in-person.

General Overview: The Assistant Project Manager (APM) will contribute to the effort of project planning, productivity, safety, and efficiency. The APM deeply understands the project, coordinates across teams, manages budgets and contracts, ensures compliance, and supports both execution and closeout. The APM builds strong relationships and steps in as Project Manager when needed. APM’s duties include all Project Engineer duties in addition to those listed below. This person should consistently demonstrate Integrity, Gratitude, Excellence, and Leadership. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Knows the Project better than the customer
  • Communicates unique contract requirements, insurance terms, and project risks to internal and external stakeholders
  • Coordinates with Field Operations, vendors, and project teams to plan, procure, and execute work efficiently
  • Participates in meetings and proactive discussions to identify, address, and resolve project challenges
  • Prepares and administers subcontracts and purchase orders to support project needs;
  • Manages project budget setup, cost coding, forecasting, and financial reconciliation throughout the project lifecycle
  • Develops and communicates production expectations and project schedules; monitors progress and adjusts plans as needed
  • Oversees Requests for Information (RFIs), submittals, material certifications, and ensures compliance with as-built documentation requirements
  • Reviews and processes subcontractor and vendor invoices, pay applications, and change orders;
  • Negotiates contracts with subcontractors
  • Leads project closeout activities, ensuring timely and accurate completion of all required documentation
  • Builds and maintains positive relationships with clients, designers, and construction partners
  • Mentors and manages Project Engineers by delegating tasks, providing guidance, and supporting professional development
  • Serves as acting Project Manager when needed
  • Knows and adheres to all Company policies and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation, knowledge of office equipment, skilled at handling multiple documents and files, ability to stand for extending periods of time, ability to walk extended distances, ability to communicate orally and in writing, ability to speak publicly, ability to be highly organized and accurate, ability to read and comprehend information from written materials, ability to work independently and in a team environment, ability to travel to and from the primary workplace daily, as well as to the occasional off-site locations such as job sites.

 

Qualifications:

  • Three (3) to five (5) years of Construction Management experience required
  • Associate degree or higher in Construction Management or related field of study is highly preferred
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Must be able to successfully complete necessary background checks
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening. (George J. Igel & Co., Inc. is a SUPR Drug-Free Workplace and tests for marijuana)
  • Must maintain an MVR (Motor Vehicle Record) that meets the Company’s eligibility
