Position Summary:  The Groundskeeping Lead will manage and train Century’s groundscrew personnel, ensuring the highest quality of work. This role will also manage the team’s work orders, implement preventive maintenance, and initiate underground sprinkler start-ups and winterizations.


Major Areas of Responsibility

  • Leads the grounds team technicians working at our apartment and/or multifamily properties

  • Initiates and leads lawn and landscaping maintenance and projects

  • Assists and guides the grounds team with tasks and projects

  • Assists Company Maintenance Technicians with various tasks and projects

  • Assists Company Management Teams with junk removal


Specific Responsibilities

Trains and leads by example all groundscrew on company procedures, practices, and duties. Assigns and monitors work orders using company technology and processes. Provides ongoing training and feedback to grounds technicians, ensuring effective operations. Approves and assists with the team’s time and attendance and performance evaluations.


Develops and keeps good relationships with vendors for assigned grounds projects. Ensures good inter-team and cross-team communication with ongoing projects. Seeks out information regarding special projects and objectives from Century’s Management Teams or Clients. Highly knowledgeable in lawn chemical application and general flora species. Moderately knowledgeable in landscaping design and placement. Completes special projects that may require specialized knowledge and licensing.


Assists the team with work, including keeping the exterior areas of apartment buildings tidy, completing intermediate landscaping projects, and disposing of trash.  Also assists with maintenance of the interior common areas by disposing of trash, changing light bulbs, furnace filters, and sweeping/vacuuming as needed. On rare occasions, may complete mowing or snow removal projects on properties.  


Communicates with all Company teams about maintenance or tenant issues and may be asked to organize or complete special projects regarding removal of unwanted items located on property.


Other duties as assigned.


Supervisory Responsibilities

This position supervises all Groundskeeping Technicians.


Position Requirements

Job Requirements:  Able to perform work quickly and efficiently, with good organizational skills and time and people management.  Attention to detail and the ability to communicate in various forms, including mobile apps, text, email, via smartphone. Must have intermediate knowledge of how to operate various hand and power tools, e.g., shovels, loppers, trimmer, lower, chain saw, edger. Knowledgeable of and follows all safety procedures. Must be able to work in various temperatures and environments.  A valid driver’s license and current insurance are required. 


Education and Experience:  1-2 years in landscaping or property or a similar outdoor role. Prior supervisory or team lead experience is highly preferred. Highly experienced in lawn chemical application and general flora species. Proven experience with underground sprinkler systems and repair. Arborist and applicator’s licenses preferred.
