Rincon Broadcasting Group is looking for a News Director to lead the news operations at KLKN in Lincoln, Nebraska, and KBSI in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

We’re looking for a forward-thinking, innovative news leader who is excited about where local news is going and eager to help lead that change.

This is a role for someone who loves leading people, coaching journalists, and building strong teams. The right person will set clear expectations, develop team members at every level, and be passionate about local journalism and community involvement.

The News Director role is based at KLKN and will provide editorial and strategic leadership for both KLKN and KBSI. This position involves working closely with station leaders and team members in both Lincoln and Cape Girardeau. The News Director will help set the vision for our coverage across broadcast, digital, streaming, and emerging platforms, while making sure our journalism and storytelling remains relevant and focused on the communities we serve.

Responsibilities: 

  • Provide overall leadership and editorial direction for the KLKN and KBSI news operations across all platforms.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop newsroom leaders, producers, anchors, reporters, MMJs, and other content, marketing, and production team members.
  • Set clear editorial priorities and ensure our newscasts and digital products consistently deliver meaningful, relevant local journalism.
  • Lead coverage of breaking news, daily news, severe weather, and community events.
  • Work with newsroom leaders and team members to ensure accurate, high quality storytelling, writing, producing, showcasing and overall execution.
  • Recruit, hire, and develop talented journalists and help build a strong pipeline for future newsroom leaders.
  • Look for new and better ways to produce and distribute local news across broadcast, digital, streaming, social, and emerging platforms.
  • Embrace technology, innovation, and new workflows that allow our teams to work smarter and better serve our audiences.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments, including marketing, sales, engineering, and station leadership.
  • Manage newsroom staffing, schedules, resources, and budgets for both newsrooms.
  • Maintain strong journalistic and ethical standards across both newsrooms.
  • Other newsroom and station duties as needed.


Qualifications: 

  • Curiousity, creativity, and willingness to challenge the way things have always been done
  • Comfortable leading through change and enthusiastic about experimenting with new technology, platforms, and approaches to local journalism
  • Enjoy coaching employees, giving clear feedback, setting expectations, recognizing good work, and helping people get better
  • Strong communication and decision-making skills
  • Ability to see the big picture without losing sight of the details that make a newsroom successful every day
  • Previous newsroom leadership experience is required. Experience as a News Director, Assistant News Director, Executive Producer, or similar senior newsroom leadership role strongly preferred.
