The Donor Relations Officer is a passionate and enthusiastic individual that stewards a portfolio of approximately 600 donors through our Donor Engagement Plan. This role focuses on building meaningful relationships and aligning donor interests with the mission of Mercy Ships to foster deeper engagement. The Donor Relations Officer (DRO) should genuinely enjoy connecting with people and be comfortable cultivating relationships across multiple channels, including phone, email, text, and emerging technologies.

This is a full time, hybrid role, requiring two days a week (Monday and Thursday) onsite at our office in Lindale, TX

Annual Compensation range is $47,000- $52,000

**Compensation range listed is for U.S. hires only. Actual compensation may vary dependent upon location of hire.

How You Will Contribute:

  • Proactively cultivates relationships with approximately 600 donors through scheduled, meaningful touchpoints, expressing gratitude in ways that deepen their connection to Mercy Ships.
  • Executes donor engagement strategies using a variety of communication channels including phone calls, texts, emails, and mailed pieces.
  • Learns about Mercy Ships programs and effectively communicates impact to inspire ongoing donor support.
  • Listens attentively to donors, discerning their needs, interests, and openness to personal relationship-building.
  • Willingly and comfortably offers prayer support for donors, responding with sensitivity to spiritual needs as appropriate.
  • Accurately records all donor interactions and stewardship activities in the CRM system in a timely and organized manner.
  • Maintains awareness of current fundraising trends and best practices to support donor retention and long-term engagement.
  • Represents Mercy Ships with professionalism and integrity, embodying the organization’s core values in all interactions with donors, volunteers, and staff.
  • Supports the Donor Relationship Manager with special projects and initiatives as assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as needed. Maintains alignment and upholds Mercy Ships Core Values, Code of Conduct, and follows the policies and procedures published on Compass.

  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft programs: Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Experience with customer relationship management (CRM) systems preferred.
  • Maintains composure and grace when navigating challenging donor interactions.
  • Committed to upholding the highest standards of confidentiality to protect donor information.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or 2 years of demonstrated skills in fundraising, sales, marketing, or customer service.
  • Or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Successful completion of Mercy Ships Entry Training will be required within the first year.  Or equivalent combination of experience and education.
