Position Summary:Ā 
The Ruth and Nathan Hale Theater is seeking a skilled and experienced AutomationĀ 
Programmer/Operator to join our production team. The Automation Programmer /Ā 
Operator will be responsible for programming and operating stage automation systems forĀ 
rehearsals and performances. This role requires a deep understanding of stage automationĀ 
technology, strong technical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively to ensure theĀ 
safe and efficient execution of all automated elements in our productions. Pay is based onĀ 
experience level. Candidates with minimal experience can be trained but will be brought inĀ 
as entry level.
Duties and Responsibilities:Ā 
• Programming:
o Program and configure stage automation systems, including winches,Ā 
turntables, lifts, and other automated scenery.Ā 
o Develop and maintain show control files, ensuring precise and reliableĀ 
operation during performances.Ā 
o Collaborate with designers and technical staff to implement automationĀ 
cues and sequences.Ā 
• Operation:
o Operate automation systems during rehearsals and performances, ensuringĀ 
smooth and accurate execution of all cues.Ā 
o Monitor the performance of automation systems in real-time, makingĀ 
adjustments as necessary.Ā 
o Conduct pre-show checks and diagnostics to ensure all systems areĀ 
functioning correctly.Ā 
• Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
o Perform regular maintenance and inspections of automation equipment toĀ 
ensure optimal performance.Ā 
o Troubleshoot and resolve any technical issues that arise with automationĀ 
systems.Ā 
o Keep detailed records of maintenance and repairs.Ā 
• Safety and Compliance:
o Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures when operating andĀ 
maintaining automation systems.Ā 
o Ensure all automation operations comply with industry safety standards andĀ 
regulations.Ā 
o Conduct safety briefings and training sessions for crew members as needed.Ā 
• Collaboration and Communication:Ā 
o Work closely with the Head of Automation & Rigging, technical staff, andĀ 
stage management to coordinate automation operations.Ā 
o Attend production meetings, technical rehearsals, and note sessions asĀ 
required.Ā 
o Provide feedback and suggestions to improve automation design andĀ 
operations.Ā 


Skills and Qualifications:
• Education Requirements: High School Diploma required.
Bachelor’s degree in Technical Theater, Engineering, or a related field is a plus.Ā 
• Experience in Job Type: Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in stage automationĀ 
programming and operation.Ā 
• Skills Required:Ā 
o Proficiency with automation control systems (e.g., Creative Connors, StageĀ 
Technologies, TAIT Navigator, ETC Eos).Ā 
o Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems related to stageĀ 
automation.Ā 
o Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.Ā 
o Strong organizational and time-management abilities.Ā 
o Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Ā 
o Effective communication and interpersonal skills.Ā 
o Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and irregular hours as required byĀ 
production schedules.Ā 
o Physical ability to lift and move heavy automation equipment.
