Position Overview
International’s Brake Engineering team is seeking a Senior Engineer, Chassis Brake Design - TRATON R&D US.
The Brake Engineering organization is responsible for the full lifecycle design, development, and ownership of braking systems across all vehicle platforms. This includes foundation brakes, brake controls and actuation systems, air brake charging and pneumatic systems, hydraulic braking systems, and wheel-end components, ensuring robust performance, safety, and compliance from concept through production.
Responsibilities
- Execute engineering work with a high degree of independence, operating from general direction on routine tasks and more detailed guidance on new or complex assignments
- Apply sound engineering judgment within established processes, standards, and procedures to determine appropriate solutions
- Leverage advanced technical expertise and decision-making skills to resolve complex engineering challenges
- Lead problem-solving efforts and implement robust engineering solutions to address system and component-level issues
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships across internal functions and external partners
- Provide guidance and technical direction to less experienced engineers when required
- Act as a key interface between design, manufacturing, testing, quality, and marketing teams throughout the full product lifecycle from concept through production and launch
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science and at least 1 year of product design/development and/or computer science experience
OR
- Master's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science
Additional Requirements

Desired Skills
- Strong experience in truck and/or automotive design and development processes (highly preferred)
- Background in engineering design release processes (highly preferred)
- Proficiency with 3D CAD modeling software (any platform)
- Experience in structural design for light and/or heavy commercial vehicle chassis components
- Working knowledge of manufacturing processes including metal forming, stamping, and casting
- Experience with structured problem-solving methodologies such as 8D, Six Sigma, and Lean principles
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience delivering formal presentations
- Experience developing and executing DFMEA, DRD, and DVP documentation
- Ability to review engineering designs for completeness, accuracy, and manufacturability
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Project
- Exposure to mechatronics systems is a plus
