Position Overview

The Technical Specialist – TRATON R&D is responsible for providing advanced technical expertise and leadership in the development of future product technologies. This role supports concept development, engineering analysis, and implementation of innovative solutions across powertrain, chassis, braking, and vehicle systems. The Technical Specialist will collaborate with cross-functional teams to define requirements, support product development activities, and communicate technical strategies throughout the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead concept development activities for future technology programs, including international-driven trailer applications, electro-mechanical brake systems, and advanced chassis projects.
  • Define and support powertrain requirements related to torque, power, efficiency, and overall system performance.
  • Provide technical expertise in axle design, system efficiency improvements, and vehicle performance optimization.
  • Support suspension design activities, including weight optimization, functionality requirements, and system integration.Contribute to the development and evaluation of advanced foundation brake systems and emerging braking technologies.
  • Apply knowledge of advanced engine and transmission systems to support future product development initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain project plans, technical milestones, and program objectives.
  • Support project budgeting activities, including technical cost evaluations and resource planning.
  • Provide project oversight by monitoring progress, identifying technical risks, and supporting issue resolution.
  • Coordinate with engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and other cross-functional teams to ensure successful program execution.
  • Create and maintain Product Development Process (PDP) documentation, ensuring accurate tracking of technical requirements, decisions, and deliverables.
  • Facilitate technology handoffs by organizing and distributing technical information across the organization.
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations to executive leadership, engineering teams, and key stakeholders.
  • Provide technical guidance and serve as a subject matter expert for assigned R&D initiatives.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science and at least 9 years of product design/development or new technologies and/or computer science experience
  • At least 2 years of lead experience

OR

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science and at least 5 years of product design/development or new technologies and/or computer science experience
  • At least 2 years of lead experience

OR

  • PhD in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science and at least 3 years of product design/development or new technologies and/or computer science experience
  • At least 2 years of lead experience

Additional Requirements

  • Qualified candidates, excluding current employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. We do not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)

Desired Skills

  • Strong understanding of axle design, performance characteristics, and efficiency improvements.
  • Experience with suspension design, weight optimization, and functional requirements.
  • Knowledge of advanced foundation brake system design and development.
  • Experience with advanced engine and transmission technologies.
  • Strong understanding of vehicle systems and product development processes.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience presenting technical information to all levels of an organization, including executive leadership.
  • Ability to analyze data and develop technical recommendations using Excel and related tools.
  • Experience leading projects, mentoring team members, or managing small technical teams.
  • Experience using NX Viewer or similar CAD visualization tools.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
