About The Position

We are seeking a highly skilled Cardiothoracic Surgery Physician Assistant for a locum tenens position at a Multi-Specialty Clinic in Arkansas. This 42-day assignment starts on 09/22/2025, with a unique schedule of 24-hour call shifts and OR time from 7 AM to 12 PM. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of first assist experience, ICU coverage experience (specifically CICU and CVICU), and endoscopic vein harvesting expertise. This role offers an opportunity to work in a challenging environment, potentially including a Trauma center. The Physician Assistant will be responsible for providing comprehensive care to cardiothoracic surgery patients, assisting in surgeries, and managing critical care needs.

Job Details: 

Location: Arkansas

LOA: 42 days (with potential for ongoing assignments) 

Provider Type Needed: Cardiothoracic Surgery Physician Assistant 

Schedule: 24-hour call shifts, OR time 7 AM - 12 PM, 2 weeks/month (14 consecutive days)

Job Responsibilities and Duties: 

• Assist in cardiothoracic surgeries as a first assistant 

• Provide critical care coverage in CICU and CVICU 

• Perform endoscopic vein harvesting procedures 

• Manage pre-operative and post-operative patient care 

• Conduct patient assessments and develop treatment plans 

• Collaborate with surgeons and other healthcare professionals 

• Respond to emergencies and manage complex patient cases 

• Utilize Epic EMR system for patient documentation 

• Participate in rounds and patient education 

• Ensure compliance with all hospital policies and procedures 

• Maintain accurate and timely medical records 

• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members 

• Stay updated on advancements in cardiothoracic surgery and critical care 

• Adapt to the demands of a potentially high-volume, high-acuity environment 

• Contribute to quality improvement initiatives within the department

Additional Information: 

• Minimum of 3 years first assist experience required 

• ICU coverage experience, specifically in CICU and CVICU, is essential 

• Endoscopic vein harvesting experience is mandatory 

• Experience in a Trauma center is highly desirable 

• Must be comfortable with 24-hour call shifts and consecutive 14-day work periods 

• Strong clinical skills in cardiothoracic surgery and critical care 

• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities 

• Ability to work independently and make critical decisions 

• Flexibility to adapt to varying patient needs and surgical schedules 

• Possibility of ongoing assignments beyond the initial 42 days
