Middle School Social Studies Teacher (7th & 8th Grade)
Location: 6423 Stagecoach Rd., Little Rock, AR 72204

Compensation: $53,314 to $56,016 annually, DOE. 

Start Date: ASAP

Academies of Math and Science (AMS) is a network of high-performing K–8 public charter schools committed to academic excellence, college readiness, and equitable access to high-quality education for students in historically underserved communities. AMS is seeking a passionate and data-driven Middle School Social Studies Teacher to deliver engaging, standards-aligned instruction that develops students' understanding of history, geography, civics, economics, and world cultures.

This role focuses on helping middle school students strengthen their critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and communication skills while encouraging them to make meaningful connections between historical events, current issues, and their role as responsible citizens. The ideal candidate creates an engaging classroom where scholars are challenged to think critically, ask thoughtful questions, and develop a deeper understanding of the world around them.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver rigorous, standards-aligned Social Studies instruction aligned with AMS curriculum
  • Differentiate instruction to support students performing above and below grade level
  • Develop students' critical thinking through history, civics, geography, and real-world connections
  • Use assessment data to drive instruction and improve student achievement
  • Maintain a structured, positive classroom culture with high expectations
  • Implement PBIS and preventative intervention strategies
  • Participate in weekly professional development and Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)
  • Collaborate with instructional leaders and grade-level teams to improve student outcomes
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress
  • Lead parent-teacher conferences and build strong home-school partnerships

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, History, Social Studies, or a related field
  • Valid teaching certification OR a minimum of three (3) years of K–12 teaching experience
  • Strong classroom management skills
  • Passion for serving Title I and diverse student populations
  • Data-driven instructional mindset
  • Collaborative work style with the ability to take initiative
  • Commitment to helping all scholars achieve academic success

Preferred Qualifications

  • Arkansas teaching certification
  • Previous middle school teaching experience
  • Master's degree in Education or related field
