The Professional Development Specialist provides educational opportunities and programs based on the participants’ identified learning needs, competencies, and development goals. The Professional Development Specialist works collaboratively with the other members of the team, internal and external partners, and stakeholders to create a learning environment and education programs that meet individual, department, and organizational goals and facilitate the adult learning process.

Description

1. Collaborates to develop short and long-term department goals, and determine resources needed.

2. Participates in the development of a financial plan that allocates resources to support the department.

3. Role models high standards for education, quality, professionalism, and accountability.

4. Synthesizes outcome data from learning needs assessment and other quality indicators to plan, implement, and evaluate educational initiatives and programs to bridge gaps in knowledge, skill, and/or practice.

5. Utilizes organizational and nursing strategic plans and goals to determine priorities for education and development.

6. Plans programs that are culturally and socially relevant and incorporates concepts of multicultural and multigenerational education.

7. Assesses learner characteristics, including learning styles and learning needs for program development.

8. Ensures readiness of appropriate learning setting, resources, facilities, materials, instructors, and equipment for planned educational activities.

9. Functions as both teacher and facilitator.

10. Contributes to nursing and interprofessional practice by supporting, conducting, and synthesizing research and evidence-based practice.

11. Monitors classes delivered by departments to ensure adherence to AC standards and guidelines.

12. Evaluates course instructors to ensure they are able to perform and teach skills, and evaluate students per AC guidelines.

13. Performs other duties as assigned.
