JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY:Ā 

TheĀ Grounds Technician SeniorĀ performs skilled duties in specialized landscaping, tree-work, and maintenance of county-owned properties. TheĀ Senior TechnicianĀ directs the activities of ground worker crews, ensuring adherence toĀ establishedĀ policies and procedures. This role performs upkeep of plants and landscaping,Ā maintainsĀ irrigation functions,Ā operatesĀ and maintains specialized equipment andĀ assistsĀ Operator teams with specified duties, performs integrated pest management, keeps records of pesticide use per regulation,Ā maintainsĀ and constructs stormwater infrastructure.Ā Senior TechniciansĀ perform high level functions such asĀ monitoringĀ the progress of subcontractors and acting asĀ a leadĀ worker, providing supervision and guidance to a small crew.Ā

SCHEDULE:Ā 

This position operates on a seasonal schedule, Monday-Friday,Ā 7:00 am-3:00 pmĀ in the winterĀ months;Ā Ā TuesdayĀ - Friday,Ā 6:00 am-4:00 pmĀ in the summer months. *Must be available to respond to emergenciesĀ and snow removal operations 24 hours a day/seven days a week. Must report toĀ the assigned shop within one hourĀ of being called.Ā

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:Ā 

  • Perform skilled upkeep of plants and landscaping. Perform planting, pruning, and removal of trees. Maintain irrigation functions. Perform vegetation and erosion control. Maintain and construct stormwater infrastructure. Monitor the progress of subcontractors.Ā Ā 

  • Operate andĀ maintainĀ specialized equipment including pesticide spray truck, GPS mapping system, boom truck, chipper, and pneumatic tree injection equipment.Ā Ā 

  • Maintain records as required by regulations. Perform and report backflow prevention assembly tests as required by regulations.Ā Ā 

  • Perform integrated pest management. Record pesticide applications and use to ensure regulatory compliance.Ā Ā 

  • Must be available to respond to emergencies and snow removal operations 24 hours a day, seven days a week, by reporting to your assigned shop within one hour of being called.Ā 

  • Perform leadwork which may include making daily work assignments for others and reviewing the work assignment upon completion.  May provide recommendations to an employee’s formal supervisorĀ regardingĀ other employees’ performance reviews, minor disciplinary actions, hiring, pay, and termination decisions.    

  • Responsible forĀ assistingĀ with the basic development and training of fellow employees.Ā Ā 

  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.Ā

Minimum Qualifications:Ā Ā

Education:Ā High School Diploma or GEDĀ 

License/Certifications:Ā Ā 

  • Must possess aĀ valid Class B or A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Air Brake restriction removed and Tanker Endorsement as well as a valid Department of Transportation (DOT) medical card within 12 months of employment.Ā 

  • Must possess aĀ Colorado Department of Agriculture (CDA) Qualified Supervisor pesticide applicator license with the following endorsements: Ornamental, Industrial Right of Way, and Turf within 12 months of employment.Ā 

  • Must beĀ able toĀ useĀ and maintain truck-mounted pesticide injection equipment within 12 months of employment. Must be able to use and maintain tree injection equipment within 6 months of employment.Ā

Preferred knowledge, skills and abilities:Ā 

  • StrongĀ backgroundĀ onĀ landscape irrigationĀ scheduling,Ā troubleshooting,Ā and repair.Ā 

  • Knowledge of central control irrigation system operation.

  • May be required to obtain certificates on Maxicom² hardware and software.Ā 

  • May be required to acquire an ASSE backflow preventionĀ testerĀ certification.Ā 

  • May be required to earn an ISA Certification.Ā 

  • May be required to obtain a Flagger, Traffic Control Supervisor, Stormwater Management, and/or Erosion Control certifications. May be required to obtain a Hazmat endorsement.Ā
