Primary Responsibilities:

  • Greets patients and family members.
  • Assists the providers with the administrative aspects of their position to ensure the efficient operation of the office on a day to day basis.
  • Maintains confidentiality of peers, medical staff and all patient information.
  • Maintains physician appointment scheduling and any changes to their schedules.
  • Check patients in/out for their appointments.
  • Collects payments and co-pays.
  • Schedule patients for return appointment and appointments with other departments.
  • Obtains insurance referrals and pre-certifications as needed. 
  • Verifies insurance eligibility.
  • Informs patients of designated appointment times of any scheduled tests.
  • Confirms next day appointments.
  • Update and verify patient demographics and insurance information.
  • Receives screens and/or delivers telephone messages in a friendly, courteous manner.
  • Processes charts for appointments.
  • Sorts and prioritizes incoming mail and correspondence.
  • Counts petty cash drawer at closing.
  • Orders office supplies. Participates in ongoing education and updates.
  • May float to cover in other clinics as needed.
  • Any other duties as assigned


 

Education: 
 
High school diploma

Experience: 

Should have prior experience in a medical office. Should have working knowledge of medical terminology, word processing, data entry, and strong customer service skills. Must have good organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize workload to meet office needs. Must possess the ability to interact well with people and deal with stressful situations appropriately.

 

Physical Demands:

Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods. Will also require bending or squatting.

Pleasant office surrounding. Occasionally subjected to stressful situations. May be exposed to communicable diseases and blood borne pathogens.
