We collaborate with contractors, facility owners, architects, engineers, and property management companies to develop innovative solutions that meet customer needs through our 9 regional locations. Our team at Total Control empowers customers to install, service, and manage building automation systems both remotely and on-site.
We are currently looking for a Building Automation System (BAS) Technician to join our Livermore team.
As a BAS Technician, your role will involve designing and implementing control systems for both new and existing buildings, either remotely from the office or in the field. You will also assist with start-up and commissioning services and provide ongoing technical support to our clients. The ideal candidate should hold a related 2+ year technical degree or have at least 2 years of experience in HVAC/R, DDC systems, industrial control, or a similar technical field.
Key Responsibilities:
- Program and configure field and supervisory controllers using specialized software tools.
- Assist with the start-up and commissioning of complete Building Automation Systems.
- Design web-based graphical user interfaces using HTML5 or Java.
- Prepare submittal packages and control drawings, primarily using Microsoft Visio and occasionally Autodesk AutoCAD.
- Communicate with customers and team members via in-person meetings, phone, and email.
- Apply existing design and programming standards, contributing to their improvement when possible.
- Work both independently on smaller projects and as part of a team on larger projects.
- Maintain up-to-date project documentation (as-built).

While training will be provided for industry-specific software, devices, and practices, the following knowledge and experience are desirable but not mandatory:
- Experience programming and configuring systems like Johnson Controls Facility Explorer, Metasys, Honeywell WEBs, or other DDC systems (e.g., ALC, Siemens).
- Web GUI design experience with tools like DGLux5 or Tridium Niagara PX.
- Knowledge of computer networking, including configuring network interfaces, using VPNs, and understanding subnetting and routing.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Visio or Autodesk AutoCAD.
- Experience with relay and digital logic, as well as AC 3-Phase induction motor control (including variable frequency drives).
- Understanding of communication protocols such as BACnet MS/TP, BACnet IP, Modbus RTU, Modbus IP, and Lon.
- Familiarity with programming languages like PLC ladder logic, Java, HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, and XML.
