Position Overview:
The Maintenance Assistant supports the Maintenance Director in maintaining the community in good repair at all times, including both the interior and exterior surfaces, fixtures and mechanical systems. Â
- Maintain all interior fixtures in good repair including walls, woodwork, handrails, nurse call systems, light fixtures, furniture, etc., in accordance with established procedures
- Maintain plumbing, electrical, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems according to established procedures, manufacturer’s instructions and county, state, and federal laws and regulations, as applicable.
- Troubleshoot failures in plumbing, electrical, heating, air conditioning or appropriate ventilation systems and obtain the services of appropriate licensed service firms, under direction from the Maintenance Director
- Respond promptly to emergency repair requests
- Keep the exterior of the building in good repair, including:
- Maintain workshop and mechanical room in a neat and clean condition and free from hazards. Â Ensure that paints and other flammable materials are properly stored.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of six (6) months experience in a skilled nursing facility or related healthcare setting required
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and general repair
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and facility-related issues
- Familiarity with safety regulations and infection control practices
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Strong attention to detail and time management skills
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks
- Good communication skills and ability to interact with staff and residents
- Physical ability to lift, carry, bend, and perform routine maintenance tasks
