Position Overview
The IT Intern will be embedded across two teams within the Information Technology department, gaining broad hands-on exposure to both innovation-focused and operational IT work. This is a split-team internship designed to provide a well-rounded IT experience.
The intern will divide their working week as follows:
• 2 days per week with the IT Innovation & Acquisitions team
• 2 days per week with the IT Support team
IT Innovation & Acquisitions — Responsibilities
Working alongside the IT Innovation & Acquisitions team, the intern will assist with a range of forward-looking technology initiatives, which may include:
• Supporting research and evaluation of emerging technologies and tools
• Contributing to proof-of-concept builds and innovation pilots
• Documenting findings, project progress, and technical recommendations
• Participating in team meetings, working groups, and strategy sessions
• Providing general project support as directed by team leads
IT Support — Responsibilities
Working alongside the IT Support team, the intern will play an active role in the Laptop Leasing Project — a key operational initiative managing the full lifecycle of leased devices across the organization. This role demands strong attention to detail and effective time management. Responsibilities will include:
• Setting up and configuring leased laptops to company standards, ready for deployment to employees
• Decommissioning end-of-lease devices, ensuring data is securely wiped and equipment is prepared for return
• Accurately tracking device inventory, lease status, and asset records throughout the equipment lifecycle
• Coordinating and processing shipments of equipment to employees and to the leasing company, ensuring items are correctly packaged, labelled, and dispatched on schedule
• Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of all devices, shipments, and lease activity to support audit and compliance requirements
• Liaising with the leasing company and internal stakeholders to manage timelines and resolve any equipment or logistics queries
• Providing additional support to the IT Support team as required
Incorporating Alta's Guiding Principles into daily activities
Performs other duties as assigned
Consistent, regular, and reliable attendance including being ready for work at the designated start time
Qualifications & Skills
The following qualifications and attributes are desirable for this role:
• Currently enrolled in or recently completed a degree in IT, Computer Science, or a related field
• Foundational understanding of IT systems, networks, and software
• Eagerness to learn across both operational and strategic IT functions
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines across two team environments
• Strong attention to detail — accuracy in device tracking, record-keeping, and logistics is essential
• Familiarity with common productivity tools (Microsoft 365 or equivalent)
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
- The intern will work a four-day week on a hybrid basis — 2 days onsite at the company’s offices and 2 days working remotely. Specific days and scheduling will be confirmed with the hiring manager upon commencement.
- Physical/Sensory Functions: Regularly will use hands, talk/hear; Frequently will sit; Occasionally will stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, taste/smell
- Vision: No special vision requirements
- Lift and/or Move Functions: Frequently will lift up to 25 pounds; Occasionally will lift 26 to 50 pounds
- Work Environment: Occasionally will work near moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, outdoor weather condition
