Job Title: Engineer – Test I 

 

Job Summary 

 

The Test Engineer will be an individual that loves working on cars, trucks off road vehicles, motors or similar mechanical and electrical systems. The successful candidate will have a proven history of creativity, innovation, and quality work. The Test Engineer needs to have a real passion for exploring how mechanical things function and testing new products for functionality, durability, and performance against established metrics. In this role, the Test Engineer will work closely with McLaren’s design and development engineers to test prototype products to ensure operation accuracy and efficiency.  

 

Responsibility 

 

  • Perform standard engineering analysis (stacks, calculations, interfacing with Core Eng. Groups). 

  • Design, develop and validate products with adherence to engineering disciplines. 

  • Perform design release activity such as Bill of Material management, drawing review and approval. 

  • Perform change management activity such as creating and tracking engineering change request. 

  • Ensure that the test technicians are properly informed as to the procedures, equipment, and fixturing required to complete the tests. 

  • Work with the customers to resolve any testing-related questions or issues that arise during the testing. 

  • Analyze test data to ensure that test results maintain consistent high-quality standards. 

  • Perform routine safety and quality checks on tests in progress. 

 

Academic/Educational Requirements 

 

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or Equivalent. 

 

Required Skills/Experience 

 

  • One year of relevant experience (co-op/internship, similar certificate, etc.)  

  • Highly professional with strong communication skills (oral and written) to interact with customers, work in teams, and create reports. 

  • Strong decision-making skills, with the ability to grasp technical concepts quickly. 

  • Strong analytical ability, including statistical analysis skills. 

  • Some mechanic-level skills to perform removal and replacement of components or systems on engines, transmissions, or driveline products will be required. 

  • Ability to quickly learn new company products, as well as maintain current knowledge of the market, new products, and aftermarket products. 

  • Ability to prioritize and work multiple tasks to completion. 

  • Ability to collaborate and work in team environment and to work independently or with little supervision. 

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work as a “bridge” between prototype technicians on the shop floor and design, development and release engineers in the office. 

  • Co-op internship product testing experience preferred. 

  • Experience writing technical specifications, validation test procedures and test reports. 

  • Experience with software packages such as Simulink, Matlab, National Instruments LabView, CAD design software, Engine management/calibration software and the MS Office suite of tools.
