This is a full-time position on MLI's Mobile Unit. This position requires regular and routine travel and driving of MLIH's mobile unit.

Position Purpose

The Mobile Unit Driver is responsible for the safe operation, transportation, readiness, and day-to-day logistical support of the organization’s mobile health unit. Responsibilities include transporting the unit to scheduled community locations, coordinating and confirming sites, preparing and maintaining the unit, ensuring vehicle cleanliness and safety, greeting patients and community members, communicating with community partners about site logistics, and promptly reporting vehicle, equipment, safety, or operational concerns to the appropriate supervisor.

Essential Job Functions

Mobile Unit Transportation and Safety

  • Safely operate the mobile health unit to scheduled community locations and events.
  • Follow all traffic laws and organizational vehicle safety policies.
  • Plan routes and ensure timely arrival at scheduled locations.
  • Complete required vehicle inspections and report any safety concerns, damage, or incidents immediately.
  • Safely park, secure, set up, and break down the mobile unit as needed.

Mobile Unit Maintenance and Readiness

  • Maintain the mobile unit in a clean, safe, organized, and service-ready condition.
  • Monitor fuel, fluids, tires, lights, and other routine vehicle needs.
  • Assist with fueling, cleaning, maintenance, inspections, and repairs as directed.
  • Maintain required mileage, inspection, and maintenance records.
  • Promptly report any vehicle, equipment, or operational issues to the supervisor.

Community Scheduling and Coordination

  • Assist with scheduling and confirming community locations for mobile unit services.
  • Communicate with community partners regarding dates, times, parking, site access, and other logistics.
  • Maintain the mobile unit schedule and communicate changes to appropriate staff.
  • Assist with identifying potential community locations and outreach opportunities.
  • Maintain professional relationships with community partners.

Patient and Community Interaction

  • Greet patients, visitors, and community members in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Direct patients and visitors to appropriate areas or staff.
  • Provide general non-clinical information about services, schedules, and locations.
  • Provide courteous customer service while maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Refer all clinical, medical, billing, or patient-care questions to appropriate staff.

General Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with mobile unit, clinical, administrative, and outreach staff.
  • Follow organizational policies and procedures, including safety, confidentiality, and infection prevention requirements.
  • Maintain required documentation accurately and timely.
  • Represent the organization professionally in the community.
  • Perform other non-clinical duties as assigned to support the mobile health program.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Safe and satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow organizational policies and procedures.
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements associated with operating, preparing, and maintaining a mobile unit.
  • CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous professional driving experience, particularly experience operating a large vehicle, commercial vehicle, mobile unit, shuttle, bus, RV, or similar vehicle.
  • Previous experience working in a healthcare, community health, public health, social service, nonprofit, or community-based organization.
  • Experience working directly with patients, clients, customers, or members of the public.
  • Experience coordinating schedules, community events, outreach activities, or service locations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent reliability, punctuality, and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to use basic technology, including mobile phones, email, GPS/navigation systems, scheduling systems, and other electronic tools used by the organization.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional early mornings, evenings, or weekends, based on community service schedules.
  • Ability to travel throughout the organization's approved service area.

Working Conditions

This position may involve being in the mobile unit and/or community at least 80% of the time. When in the agency, this position is maintained in a controlled climate. No more than 20% of employee’s time is spent in standing and moving about the agency. This employee will only be required to do lifting of less than 50 pounds no more than 10% of the time.
