Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical R&D Engineer III to join our Single-Use Technologies division. In this role, you will contribute to the development of equipment and systems used in the manufacturing of biologics and vaccines.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and deliver innovative, reliable, and manufacturable hardware solutions. This role involves working on complex mechanical systems from concept through commercialization, applying expertise in precision engineering, materials, and system integration to support critical applications in bioprocessing and life sciences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop hardware systems and components for single-use bioprocessing equipment
  • Lead mechanical and system-level design activities from concept through production
  • Translate product and customer requirements into robust, scalable design solutions
  • Develop 3D CAD models, assemblies, and detailed engineering drawings
  • Apply GD&T, tolerance analysis, and DFx principles (manufacturability, assembly, serviceability)
  • Conduct engineering analyses and calculations to support design decisions
  • Perform risk assessments using tools such as FMEA and drive mitigation strategies
  • Lead root cause investigations and implement corrective actions
  • Collaborate with electrical, systems, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure successful integration
  • Support prototyping, testing, validation, and verification activities
  • Manage engineering documentation, ECOs, and compliance with quality systems (ISO, FDA)
  • Participate in design reviews, project planning, and continuous improvement initiatives

Education

  • Minimum Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field

Experience:

  • 4+ years of relevant engineering experience required
  • Experience in hardware design and product development in a technical environment
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD tools (SolidWorks, ProE, or equivalent) required.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and mechanical design fundamentals
  • Experience with engineering calculations and structured problem-solving methods
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes (machining, injection molding, sheet metal fabrication)
  • Experience working within regulated quality systems and change control processes

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in bioprocessing, single-use technologies, or laboratory/scientific instrumentation
  • Familiarity with PDM/PLM systems
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license
  • Experience with validation, verification, and regulatory compliance (FDA/ISO)
