Industrial Engineer / Process Improvement Intern

Overview
 Support manufacturing engineering and operations by analyzing production processes, maintaining manufacturing routers, and conducting time studies to improve efficiency and documentation accuracy.

Core Responsibilities

  • Analyze existing production processes to identify inefficiencies and improvement opportunities 
  • Document workflows, standard work instructions, and process steps clearly and accurately 
  • Support creation, review, and updates of manufacturing routers (BOMs, labor steps, run times, etc.) 
  • Conduct time studies and collect production data on the shop floor 
  • Assist with process validation and continuous improvement initiatives 
  • Collaborate with production, quality, and engineering teams 

Required Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a degree in: 
    • Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field 
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing processes (assembly, machining, etc.) 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills 
  • Ability to break down processes into clear, structured steps 
  • Comfortable working in a shop floor environment 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel (data tracking, basic analysis) 
  • Strong written communication skills for documentation 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Coursework or experience in: 
    • Time studies / work measurement (MTM, stopwatch studies, etc.) 
    • Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma principles 
  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems (SAP, Oracle, etc.) 
  • Experience creating process documentation, SOPs, or flowcharts 
  • Exposure to CAD or manufacturing drawings

  • Notices inefficiencies and asks the right questions 
  • Produces clear, usable documentation (not vague or overly complex) 
  • Works well with operators and gains information from the floor
