Pacific Maritime Group is actively seeking a LEAD marine paint technician with experience in the application of industrial coatings on various vessels, structures and fixtures. This is a full-time on-site position at our Long Beach location. 

This role focuses on preparing and painting wood and metal surfaces on vessels and boat yard structures, ensuring high-quality coating application that meets rigorous safety and performance standards. You will clean, mask, and paint interior and exterior surfaces, mix materials according to technical specifications, and perform detailed inspections and touch-up work.

What we are looking for:

  • Recent marine painting experience with supervisory responsibility
  • Ability to prioritize and create a schedule for the prep and maintenance of vessels. Working with Port Captain and General Manager towards the timely completion of tasks
  • Knowledge of marine epoxy, polyurethane, and enamel coatings.
  • Experience with prepping and sealing, spray painting and conventional paint methods
  • Surface prep to include stripping, scuffing, sanding, masking and priming
  • Experience with use of hand and power tools including but not limited to: scraper, wire brush, needle gun, grinder, pneumatic chipper, basic tools, etc. 
  • Knowledge of basic painting applications, including surface preparation procedures and proper use and mixing of paints.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow Product Data Sheets (PDS) for paint and coating materials.
  • Ability to identify paint application requirements and select appropriate equipment for coating application.
  • Proficiency in operating high-reach equipment safely to access elevated work areas.
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces while maintaining safety and work quality.
  • Capability to work any shift as required by project and production needs.
  • Ability to safely access and move around vessels, including climbing, balancing, and navigating various boatyard areas.
  • Ability to distinguish differences in color to ensure proper coating coverage and quality.
  • Strong comprehension of written and verbal instructions, including safety instructions, regulations, and warnings.
  • Ability to work in a cooperative and respectful manner with other team members. 
  • Marine painters must also be familiar with, and trained in, the proper use of respiratory protection equipment such as respirators and other breathing devices.
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • 1 year in a supervisory role
  • 2+ years marine painter experience 
  • Shipyard experience is a plus
  • Brainstorming/Thinking outside the box, planning, scheduling, sequencing of work 
  • Ability to prioritize duties and multi-task 
  • Strong organizational skills 

 

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to lift 100 lbs. without restriction. Position involves lifting, pulling, and operating heavy equipment and objects.
  • Agility to bend, stoop, or squat, and climb high steps/ladders frequently.
  • Physical dexterity and strength to operate deck machinery; work on equipment that is in confined workspaces.
  • Must be able to keep balance/equilibrium while performing duties at various heights.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces for prolonged periods of time.
  • Adequate hearing & vision ability.
  • Proper heat/cold tolerance, working in all weather conditions.
  • Comfortable working while exposed to grease, dirt, paint, water, etc. 

Wage Range: $33.00 - $38.00
