POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for managing and supervising the activities of a program with the direct support of the Associate Executive Director.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Manages program activities to meet YMCA objectives (see detailed list below).
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules, and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance.
  • Manages established program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information, may organize and schedule program registrations. May review and process program scholarship applications.
  • Responsible in the development and monitoring of program budget.
  • Order program supplies, uniforms and other needs for the TK/Kinder department.
  • Responsible for TK/Kinder payroll, including input of schedules, authorizing timesheets, and conduct regular payroll reports.
  • Manages use of facilities for program activities and events.
  • Assists in YMCA fundraising activities and special events.
  • Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of participation in the program.
  • Attend and lead all staff meetings, trainings and other YMCA functions as required by Supervisor.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with participants, staff, and supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Overall responsible for the implementation and execution of the TK/Kinder program.
  • Provide direct supervision and support to TK/Kinder Coordinator and assigned YMCA TK/K support staff, including regular coaching, mentoring, performance feedback, scheduling, and accountability to ensure consistent, high-quality service delivery.
  • Conduct a minimum or two (2) classroom visits each workday to observe YMCA Support Staff performance, provide coaching, ensure compliance with the YMCA and LBUSD expectations, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with school site administrators, classroom teachers, and district personnel by conducting regular check-ins to assess satisfaction with YMCA services, address concerns, and ensure open and effective communication.
  • Serve as the primary YMCA liaison for assigned school sites, responding promptly to questions, coordinating staffing needs, facilitating substitute coverage, and resolving operational issues in collaboration with school administration.
  • Ensure YMCA TK/K Support Staff comply with all YMCA policies, LBUSD procedures, Child Abuse Prevention Standards, and program expectations, including attendance, timekeeping, documentation, and required training.
  • Monitor program quality through regular site observations, documentation, and follow-up, ensuring consistent implementation of program standards while fostering positive relationships with students, families, school staff, and YMCA personnel.
  • Coordinate staff onboarding, orientation, and ongoing professional development, including facilitating trainings, documenting required certifications, and supporting employee growth and performance improvement plans.
  • Collect and communicate feedback from school principals, teachers, and district staff, utilizing surveys, site visits, and regular communication to evaluate program effectiveness, recognize staff successes, and implement continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate staffing, site visit, and performance documentation, including records of coaching conversations, classroom observations, corrective actions, and program communications.
  • Support the successful implementation and growth of the YMCA TK/K Support Program by promoting a culture of professionalism, collaboration, responsiveness, and exceptional customer service in partnership with the Long Beach Unified School District.


Additional Job Specific Duties for Posting:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • College Degree preferred or equivalent experience
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certification required.
  • 4 or more years of experience in a related field is required.
  • Experience in program leadership and staff supervision required.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments, organizational skills, basic PC, and typing skills required.
  • Additional Requirements: Criminal Clearance: Including Fingerprints and background clearance
  • Health Screening with Neg. Tb and Neg. Drug Test Screening
  • Complete all required online training.


WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Environmental Factors: Indoor and outdoor facilities (e.g., fitness and recreational sites); exposure to heat, cold, potentially hazardous chemicals, toxic materials; work on slippery or uneven surfaces. The noise level is usually moderate.
