The Terminal Manager supervises all departmental personnel and is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating the daily gate and terminal cargo-handling operations and associated administrative functions to meet customer standards and maximize profits.  Participates in the discipline and employment processes by making decisions to hire, promote/demote, and terminate employment.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the supervision of subordinate personnel to ensure that all work is accomplished consistently with organizational requirements.
  • Conduct employee training sessions on subjects such as hazardous material handling, employee orientations, quality improvements, and computer usage.
  • Participate in union contract negotiations and settlements of grievances.
  • Implement schedule and policy changes.
  • Ensure that continuous improvement is being made concerning policies, procedures, goals, and objectives.
  • Monitor operations to ensure that staff members comply with administrative policies and procedures, safety rules, union contracts, and government regulations.
  • Promote safe work activities by conducting safety audits, attending company safety meetings, and meeting with individual staff members.
  • Monitor spending to ensure that expenses are consistent with approved budgets.
  • Direct activities of staff performing repairs and maintenance to equipment, vehicles, and facilities.
  • Coordinate safety, operational, and equipment support with other managers.
  • Conduct investigations to determine causes of accidents and to improve safety procedures.
  • Analyze expenditures and other financial information to develop plans, policies, and budgets for increasing profits and improving services.
  • Participate in hiring, disciplinary actions, and terminations of staff.
  • Inventory management to ensure there is a sufficient supply in office inventory; this would include ordering supplies, maintaining an organized supply area, waybill loading, cost analysis, and projection.
  • Maintain company values, rules, policies, and procedures to fulfill the company mission, as well as productive relationships with customers and vendors.
  • Responsible for special tasks requested by management.
Qualifications

 

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 3 years managing a related union labor workforce.
  • A valid CPR certificate, valid driver’s license, and TWIC card are required.
  • Knowledge of terminal and warehouse operations from a vocational education institute, apprenticeship, on-the-job training, and/or similar work experience.
  • Highly organized and flexible.
  • Proven leadership skills.
  • Detail-oriented and works with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Knowledge and understanding of stowage and stability strongly desired.
  • Knowledge of local unions preferred.
  • Required to observe all safety and health requirements for the terminal environment.
  • Working knowledge of email, scheduling, and Microsoft systems.

 

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:  Yes-Office Manager and Administrative Assistants, Operations Labor Managers, and Warehouse personnel.

 

 

Work environment:

  • Required job duties are performed in a professional office environment.
  • The position may also be required to travel throughout the terminal
  • The noise level in the work environment is occasional.
  • The ability to work in an environment that may be hazardous to persons unable to see and hear fast-moving equipment.
