Responsibilities/Qualifications

Emergency Call Relay Center (ECRC) is currently seeking a 911 Call Taker or "Telecommunicator" for our Longmont office (1601 Dry Creek Drive, Longmont CO 80503).

 

We receive emergency and non-emergency calls nationwide, along with the U.S. territories and international locations, and route them to the appropriate jurisdiction.

 

This is an entry‑level opportunity designed for candidates who are looking to start a career in 911 call taking.

 

After approximately one year of experience and demonstrated performance, associates may have the opportunity to progress into higher‑level roles with expanded responsibilities.

Telecommunicators should expect:

  • Receive incoming emergency calls or texts in a 24x7 high volume call center environment
  • Shifts may include days, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Typical shifts are 10-12 hours per day
  • Extended periods of sitting and working at a computer
  • Schedules include set days off that are known in advance

Day to day

  • Handle a variety of police, fire, and medical-related calls and texts
  • Gather essential information from callers to determine the appropriate routing using established guidelines and scripts
  • Accurately document call details (date, time, nature of call, location, etc.)
  • Use Intrado tools to ensure calls are transferred to the correct jurisdiction
  • Maintain strong teamwork and communication with peers and leadership
  • Provide respectful, professional service to all callers and partners

Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma required
  • Associate’s degree in communication, business, or related field preferred
    (Equivalent relevant experience may be considered)

Experience & Skills

  • Experience working in a 24x7 environment preferred
  • Experience working in a call center environment preferred
  • Customer service experience over the phone
  • Basic computer skills and comfort working with multiple applications.
  • Ability to remain focused in a fast‑paced, call‑driven environment
  • Strong listening skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work varying shifts, including evenings, overnights, holidays and weekends
  • Strong attendance and schedule adherence
