Examinations shall be open to all candidates who possess the established qualifications as outlined by the District, subject to specific testing eligibility deadlines. The Fire Chief or their designee will verify the eligibility of all requests. An employee who is currently on a performance improvement plan, or who has been demoted or suspended without pay within the twenty-four (24) months preceding the notice of the position, shall not be eligible to test for a promotion.
Each candidate who is interested in participating in the promotional process shall submit a letter of intent and any required documents listed in the position posting. Firefighters who fail to submit materials that are not verifiable in their personnel files by the deadline date and time shall waive their opportunity to participate in the process.

Deadline for letters of interest, College Degree, and Application: August 31, 2026, all letters of intent must be included in application process in ADP. All college degrees or certifications that cannot be attached to the application, or in Target Solutions, must be sent to Human Resources by the deadline.
Deadline for all required certifications: August 31, 2026, or as noted in the SOG HR-111 as well as the Job Description. Candidates who fail to submit the documents required by the appointed date and time shall waive their opportunity to participate in the process.

Promotion Test / Assessment Center
Engineer Promotion Test Reading List: see portal.
Assessment Center: September 21st - September 25th. Please see the organizational calendar for details on the assessment center closer to the testing date (by August 21st). More specific details will be assigned and will be given out individually at least 30 days before the date on which the examination will be administered (per SOG HR-111).
