The Senior Estimator analyzes blueprints, specifications, quotations & existing site conditions when necessary to thoroughly & accurately determine the time, cost, & labor of projects and assists the work of Estimators I & II as well as performing other departmental supportive functions.

Essential Duties:

  • Produce conceptual estimates with limited information
  • Take an active role in Post Bid Scoping Meetings with clients
  • Track bid status to acquire bid results
  • Consult with other departments to discuss/formulate estimates.
  • Exhibit ability to successfully manage personnel within the department
  • Display a high degree of understanding with regard to project scope, cost, labor, time, and profit.
  • Display a high level of emotional maturity
  • Ability to successfully help manage the workload of the lower staff within the department
  • Attend Pre-Bid Surveys to incorporate site conditions into the estimate.
  • Perform detailed take-offs and produce estimate software reports
  • Identify, compile and submit RFI questions in a timely manner.
  • Review & qualify vendor/subcontractor quotes and against bid documents to ensure accurate scope coverage at the time of the bid.
  • Consult with clients, vendors, and Project Managers to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
  • Capture remaining estimating price data (i.e., management and general conditions costs)
  • Perform breakout, alternate & value engineering pricing as required.
  • Assist with proposal scope letters for accurate inclusions, exclusions & qualifications.
  • Compute cost factors and prepares estimates used for management purposes such as planning, organizing, scheduling work, preparing bids, selecting vendors or subcontractors, and determining cost-effectiveness.
  • Participate in prime/general contractor bid review meetings.
  • Provide project turnover information after award and participate in turnover meetings.
  • Assist in tracking bid status to acquire bid results.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.
  • Review estimates done by other estimators
  • Assist the Chief Estimator with day to day estimating operations

Education/Experience/Licenses

  • Bachelor's Degree, or HS Diploma with 6 years estimating experience, or HS Diploma with 8-10 years trade-related experience.
  • A valid Florida Driver's License is required.

Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge and skill of:

  • Understands HVAC and plumbing codes and systems
  • Modern office practices, procedures, and equipment
  • Estimating Software, Advanced Excel, Word, Outlook, and basic computer operations
  • Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Determine actual project scope and cost
  • Must have duct work experience
  • Protect the company from financial loss associated with errors or omissions
