Cardiovascular Physicians of Delaware

Triage Nurse- Cardiology

Full Time- Monday-Friday, dayshift

Location- Newark, DE



Job Summary


Clinically responsible for all patients of Cardiology Physicians either by phone or in the office. Responsible for supporting multiple doctors and practitioners.


Duties and Responsibilities


  • Responsible for all emergent calls coming in from patients. All calls are triaged by a nurse, discussed with a physician and a response given within 30 minutes.
  • Schedule all outpatient procedures performed by our physicians. Educate patients about procedure, holding medications, pre-treating for procedure. Communicate with CCHS to schedule.
  • Navigate all patients going for TAVR. Coordinate physician, CCHS and patient. Order all testing prior to procedure. Educate patients about TAVR protocol, pre-procedure and post- procedure follow-up. STS prom, KCCQ.
  • Navigate all patients going for Watchman. Coordinate physician, CCHS and patient. Order all testing prior to procedure. Educate patients about Watchman protocol, pre-procedure and post- procedure follow-up.
  • Process all follow-up paperwork for TAVR, Watchman, mitral clips at one month and annually. Make sure all patients have their follow-up echos and OV.
  • ILR implant: Prep surgical suite prior to ILR implant procedure. Prep patient for procedure, sign consents and schedule follow-up appointments. Assist physician during procedure. Educate patient post-procedure. Set up and register all technology.
  • Genetic testing: Coordinate patient appointments for testing. Complete all paperwork, draw blood and educate patients on possible financial responsibility. Ship blood and paperwork to Genedx.
  • Review all testing: documents, bloodwork, stress tests, echos, CDU, ABI, vascular studies, office notes from PCP and specialist. Call patients with abnormal studies after a plan has been discussed with the ordering physician.
  • Assist physicians with all aspects of cardiac care for patients.
  • Arrange consults with Lankenau or UOP at the instruction of the physician. Ship all records and discs to the appropriate facility. Call to discuss with the patient and make them aware of our process.
  • Walk-ins: Nurse will do a head-to-toe assessment of a patient that walks in with a clinical complaint. Results are discussed with a physician then implemented with the patient. Nursing note is documented, super bill is printed to bill for the visit.
  • Emergency with a patient in the office: Two nurses are to address any emergencies within the office (Ex. falls, chest pain, SOB, bleeding) Nurse will do a head-to-toe assessment then discussed with physician. Once a plan is decided, a nurse will stay with patient until patient departs the office. Nursing note will be completed after the patient has been stabilized.


Educational Requirements and Qualifications


  • LPN, RN or BSN with active Delaware license.
  • ACLS certification.
  • 30 hours of continuing education every two years.

  • Proficient in bloodwork interpretation.


Physical Requirements


  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Finger dexterity to perform duties such as typing or writing.
  • Ability to speak and hear.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
