JOB SUMMARY: 

The Chocker position is responsible for securing vehicles with the Carriers, motorcycles on carts, and carts and tractors within Carriers.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
• Ensures the placement and removal of chockers on each car wheel.
 • Ensures the precise positioning of automobiles within the Carriers.
 • Chocks and straps the vehicles in the carrier.
 • At arrival terminal removes chocks and straps.
 • Wears and uses required protective equipment while working.
 • Takes responsibility for own safety while on the job.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
 
• Must speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; Listens and gets clarification; Responds well to questions;
 • Cost Consciousness - Works within approved budget.
 • Works with integrity and ethically.
 • Knowledge and understanding of Drummac policies and Handbook
 • Must have the ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables
 • Responds to requests for service and assistance;
 • Maintains confidentiality;
 • Keeps emotions under control; Remains open to others' ideas and tries new things
 • Must demonstrate initiative and decisiveness and be able to inspire others to excel.
 • Must be able to work well under pressure and tight deadlines and handle conflict resolution
 • Must be able to work from written assignment sheet and sign-off work completed on printed forms.
 • Must exhibit ability to read and interpret operational manuals

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
 
• The employee is regularly required to stand or walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
 • The employee frequently is required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and talk or hear.
 • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 80 pounds.
 • The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
 • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
 
• Willingness to work in all weather conditions and various hours to accommodate the arrival and departure of the trains
 • Must be willing to work odd hours and/or split shifts to include days, nights and/or weekends.
 • Must be able to work alone and unsupervised.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
 
• Valid driver's license is required.
 • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.
 • Skilled in chocking all types of vehicles
 • Must be able to drive automatic and manual transmission vehicles.
 • Ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and on-call is required.
 • Ability to work outdoors in inclement work conditions is required. 

Starting rate for full-time Chocker candidates in Lorton, Virginia: $17.00/hour.  In addition to the wage, full-time employees will be offered the following benefits:
