About the Role

The Lead Mechanic keeps all vehicles, landscape machinery, and equipment running safely and reliably. This role oversees maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting across a range of heavy-duty landscaping equipment, leads a team of technicians, and drives preventative maintenance scheduling to minimize downtime and keep projects on track.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance and repair, preferably in landscaping
  • Proven experience leading or supervising a team of mechanics or technicians
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical components used in landscaping machinery
  • Valid driver's license and ability to operate landscaping equipment and vehicles as needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • Trade or technical school certification in heavy equipment mechanics or diesel technology
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
  • OSHA certification or other relevant safety training
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations on equipment emissions and waste disposal
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills using modern diagnostic tools

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate daily activities of the mechanic team to ensure timely, effective repairs
  • Diagnose and repair issues across engines, transmissions, hydraulics, and other heavy equipment systems using diagnostic tools
  • Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules to reduce failures and extend equipment lifespan
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records, including parts and labor, for compliance and budgeting
  • Coordinate with project managers and site supervisors to prioritize equipment readiness and urgent repairs
  • Manage the warehouse/shop, including organization, inventory of parts and supplies, and upkeep of tools and equipment

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 6am - 4pm.
