About the Role
The Lead Mechanic keeps all vehicles, landscape machinery, and equipment running safely and reliably. This role oversees maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting across a range of heavy-duty landscaping equipment, leads a team of technicians, and drives preventative maintenance scheduling to minimize downtime and keep projects on track.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 5+ years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance and repair, preferably in landscaping
- Proven experience leading or supervising a team of mechanics or technicians
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical components used in landscaping machinery
- Valid driver's license and ability to operate landscaping equipment and vehicles as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- Trade or technical school certification in heavy equipment mechanics or diesel technology
- Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
- OSHA certification or other relevant safety training
- Familiarity with environmental regulations on equipment emissions and waste disposal
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills using modern diagnostic tools
Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate daily activities of the mechanic team to ensure timely, effective repairs
- Diagnose and repair issues across engines, transmissions, hydraulics, and other heavy equipment systems using diagnostic tools
- Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules to reduce failures and extend equipment lifespan
- Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records, including parts and labor, for compliance and budgeting
- Coordinate with project managers and site supervisors to prioritize equipment readiness and urgent repairs
- Manage the warehouse/shop, including organization, inventory of parts and supplies, and upkeep of tools and equipment
