WHY THIS ROLE

Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking a seasoned, experienced Physician Assistant to join its occupational medicine team. This is a fully qualified, career-level PA2 position supporting the health and safety of the LANL workforce in one of the nation's most scientifically advanced and mission-critical research environments. You will work directly with Laboratory occupational physicians, providing clinical care, managing patient dispositions, identifying and correcting workplace medical issues, and counseling employees on health-related matters - all in a setting where the work you do directly supports national security and scientific discovery.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist Laboratory occupational physicians in carrying out treatments and managing patient care
  • Determine and arrange proper patient dispositions for a diverse occupational health patient population
  • Identify and correct workplace medical issues in coordination with occupational physicians and safety staff
  • Counsel and educate employees on health-related issues including occupational exposures and preventive care
  • Resolve a wide range of complex clinical problems using sound judgment and evidence-based approaches
  • Contribute to the development of organizational goals and objectives within the occupational medicine program
  • Network with senior internal and external medical personnel as required
  • Work under limited direction - determine approach to solutions, plan schedule, and arrange own activities to accomplish objectives
  • Demonstrate good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining clinical solutions

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Board Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C) through the NCCPA - required, no exceptions
  • Licensed to practice medicine by the New Mexico Board of Medical Examiners - required at time of start
  • Current New Mexico pharmacy license and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) license
  • 2–5 years of recent clinical experience in occupational medicine OR a closely related field (family medicine, emergency/urgent care medicine, internal medicine, or sports medicine)
  • Working knowledge of and demonstrated proficiency in occupational medicine or closely related clinical field
  • Ability to work 3x12 night shifts or weekend schedule
  • S. Citizenship required

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Direct occupational medicine experience in a DOE, federal, industrial, or laboratory environment
  • Experience managing workplace injury and illness cases, return-to-work programs, or fit-for-duty evaluations
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations, workers' compensation, and occupational health surveillance programs
  • Experience providing care in a research, scientific, or high-hazard industrial environment
