As a Powertrain Responsible Engineer you will own the mechanical components and assemblies that generate and transmit power in all forms (fluid, mechanical and electrical) throughout our hypersonic vehicles. This includes gear boxes, generators, motors, and turbomachinery. This highly interdisciplinary role requires strong 1st principles in mechanics, fluid dynamics, thermal analysis, materials science, and manufacturing. You will need to be able to communicate requirements clearly and concisely in a rapidly changing environment while driving the development of cutting-edge hardware that will accelerate the future of hypersonic travel.Â
\n- Fully own critical flight hardwareÂ
- Work with system owners to architect and place components within systemsÂ
- Component level architecture and sizingÂ
- Component design, analysis, development testing, qualification, production introductionÂ
- Scope vehicle level operational methods and limits to ensure reliability and personnel safety through all phases of production and operationÂ
- Making risk conscious decisions aligned with program postureÂ
- Prioritize broad work scope to meet top company objectivesÂ
- Design/build cutting edge gearboxes, pumps, motors, and generators for hypersonic aircraftÂ
- Design/build required testing infrastructure to validate, accept and qualify novel designsÂ
- Work with manufacturing team to establish necessary production infrastructure to bring your designs to lifeÂ
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline (mechanical, aerospace, physics, materials, etc.)Â
- Experience using CAD to design parts and assembliesÂ
- 3+ years of Engineering, competition team, applied research experience related to fluid or engine systemsÂ
- Passion for hardware design and development
- Willingness to travel to support of hardware and flight testsÂ
- Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as neededÂ
- Master’s degree in engineering discipline (mechanical, aerospace, physics, materials, etc.)Â
- 5+ years of experience developing hardware from concept to productionÂ
- Proficiency in Gear Design, Bearing Design, Rotordynamics, thermodynamics, mechanics, and materialsÂ
- Strong knowledge of GD&T and stack-up analysis Â
- Script programming experience (Python, Matlab, Excel, VBA, etc.)Â
- Pressurized fluid components experience such as solenoids, regulators, throttle valves, relief valves, linear and rotary actuators.Â
- Ability to execute in a scrappy, entrepreneurial manner with tight timelines.Â
- Professional experience using Siemens NX/Teamcenter and ANSYSÂ
- Great attitude in the face of extreme challengesÂ
