POSITION OBJECTIVE/SUMMARY:

The Transportation Driver is responsible for the safe, courteous, and timely transportation of patients, clients, staff, and authorized personnel to designated destinations throughout Los Angeles County. This position ensures compliance with all applicable transportation regulations, maintains assigned vehicles in a safe operating condition, and supports the organization's commitment to providing quality service and patient care.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of transportation driving experience in a healthcare environment or related field.
  • Valid California Class C Driver License with a clean driving record.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational, problem-solving, and time-management abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
  • Flexibility to work additional hours and support special transportation assignments as required.
  • Be available for after hours and weekend on-call status one week each month or as needed.

 

Essential duties and responsibilities:

Transportation Services

  • Safely transport patients, clients, staff, and authorized personnel to assigned destinations, including healthcare facilities, court appearances, residential locations, and other approved locations. 
  • Ensure all transportation services are conducted professionally, courteously, and in compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements. 
  • Confirm daily transportation schedules and verify appointment cancellations or modifications prior to departure. 
  • Maintain communication with Transportation Services and/or dispatch personnel to receive updates, schedule changes, or routing instructions.
  • Occasionally assigned other duties as directed by the Transportation Manager.


Documentation and Reporting

  • Complete and maintain accurate vehicle trip logs and transportation records daily. 
  • Immediately report all vehicle accidents, incidents, injuries, or safety concerns to the Director of Support Services and follow all applicable reporting procedures. 
  • Complete required incident reports promptly and accurately in accordance with agency policies and regulatory requirements.


 

Vehicle Maintenance and Safety

  • Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to identify safety concerns or maintenance needs. 
  • Report vehicle deficiencies, repairs, or service requirements to management in a timely manner. 
  • Ensure assigned vehicles are clean, fueled, secured, and parked in designated locations at the end of each shift. 
  • Maintain compliance with all federal, state, local, and organizational safety regulations regarding passenger transportation. 

 

Operational Support

  • Assist with special transportation assignments, including deliveries, vendor pickups, post office runs, county agency visits, employee transportation, and other organizational needs assigned. 
  • Support departmental goals and initiatives that promote operational efficiency and exceptional customer service. 
  • Participate in organizational activities and special projects as directed by management.

  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding patient, employee, and organizational information. 
  • Demonstrate professionalism, respect, and integrity in all interactions with patients, visitors, staff, and external agencies.

Competencies:

Traffic Laws and Regulatory Compliance

  • Demonstrates knowledge of transportation laws, regulations, and organizational policies to ensure safe and compliant operations.
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of laws and regulations of the streets and highways that pertain to driving and maintain a Class C CDL.
  • Understand the natural forces that affect driving i.e. alcohol and drug use, sleepiness, etc.
  • Promotes a culture of safety by adhering to established safety protocols and identifying potential hazards before they become risks.

  • Demonstrate knowledge and decision-making skills needed to be an effective transportation driver.
  • Provides compassionate, respectful, and responsive service to patients, clients, families, and staff while always maintaining professionalism.

  • Maintain patient privacy and HIPPA regulations.
