  • Candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and at least 5 years of experience in electrical design engineering, preferably in critical facilities.
  • The position requires expertise in the National Electrical Code (NEC) and proficiency in design software like AutoCAD and Revit.
  • The salary range for this role is between $80,000 and $120,000, depending on the applicant's qualifications and experience.
  • ABM offers a comprehensive benefits package and the opportunity to participate in a company incentive or bonus program.

ABM is seeking a highly skilled Electrical Design Engineer to be the subject matter expert for all electrical infrastructure and power system requirements during the rapid deployment and expansion of Waymo operational sites. Reporting functionally to the Senior Project Manager, this role is crucial for ensuring that all new or modified site electrical systems meet stringent safety codes, handle specialized Waymo load requirements (e.g., charging infrastructure, server rooms), and are designed for optimal long-term facility maintenance by ABM teams.

Key Responsibilities

1. Electrical System Design and Engineering

  • Load Analysis and Sizing: Perform detailed electrical load calculations, short-circuit analysis, and voltage drop calculations for new facility systems and modifications.
  • Design Package Creation: Develop complete electrical design packages, including one-line diagrams, power distribution plans, lighting layouts, fire alarm system interfaces, and grounding details, compliant with NEC and local jurisdictional codes.
  • Specialized Systems: Design and specify electrical infrastructure for critical client equipment, including data center components, specialized charging stations for autonomous vehicles, and battery storage/backup systems.
  • Peer Review: Conduct technical reviews of designs provided by external A&E firms or contractors to ensure they align with ABM's maintenance standards and Waymo's operational specifications.

2. Technical Support and Construction Oversight

  • Permitting: Prepare and compile necessary electrical documentation and calculations for submission to Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) to secure required permits on compressed timelines.
  • Construction Support: Provide technical support and clarification to the Project Managers and construction teams during the rapid deployment phase, addressing RFIs related to electrical installation promptly.
  • Commissioning and Verification: Participate in the commissioning process for new electrical systems, verifying proper installation and functionality, and ensuring accurate as-built documentation is produced.

3. Standards and Efficiency

  • Standardization: Develop and maintain ABM's internal electrical design standards for Waymo sites, ensuring consistency, energy efficiency, and ease of future maintenance across the portfolio.
  • Energy Solutions: Identify and recommend energy-efficient electrical solutions, integrating with ABM's broader energy management services where applicable.
  • Troubleshooting: Act as the highest level of technical escalation for complex electrical issues identified during site startup or early operations.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from an accredited institution.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is highly preferred. EIT certification with significant progression toward PE is acceptable.
  • At least 5 years of experience in electrical design engineering, focused on commercial, industrial, or critical facilities (e.g., data centers, vehicle maintenance depots, or manufacturing).

â—Ź Technical Proficiency:

â—‹ Expert knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC).

â—‹ Proficiency in electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, ETAP, or specialized calculation software).

â—‹ Hands-on experience with medium and low-voltage power distribution systems, lighting controls, and fire alarm systems.

â—Ź Attributes: Strong problem-solving skills, ability to manage multiple designs simultaneously, and effective technical communication.

â—Ź Travel: Ability to travel up to 35% to new and existing sites for assessments, code reviews, and construction support.
