Program and Role Summary The primary focus on the Clinical Therapist ll, is provides direct clinical services to youth ages 12-17, including those dually diagnosed with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (I/DD) and co-occurring behavioral health conditions. This position delivers structured, evidence-based treatment within Intensive Outpatient (IOP) and Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) levels of care, including individual, group, and family therapy and psychoeducational programming grounded in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) frameworks. The Clinical Therapist II operates as a core member of the multidisciplinary treatment team under the supervision of the Clinical Director and in coordination with the Medical Director. The yearly wage range for this role is $ 88,000 to 92,000 a year. Primary Responsibilities: Provides services in a culturally competent, trauma-informed manner that reflects an understanding of the intersecting needs of youth with I/DD and behavioral health conditions. Conducts biopsychosocial assessments within 24 hours of admission, documenting clinical findings accurately and thoroughly and coordinating with the intake coordinator and medical/psychiatric staff to ensure timely completion of the full admission workup. Develops individualized treatment plans in collaboration with the youth, guardian(s), and multidisciplinary team, incorporating client and family strengths, presenting problems, functional goals, and level-of-care criteria consistent with IOP/PHP standards. Provides individual therapy utilizing evidence-based approaches including CBT, DBT, and trauma-informed care. In PHP, individual therapy is provided once per week; in IOP, individual therapy is provided as clinically indicated per the individual treatment plan. In both levels of care, interventions are adapted to meet the communication, cognitive, and developmental needs of youth with I/DD. Facilitates daily group therapy sessions across IOP and PHP programming. Named group types include: DBT Skills Groups (all five modules: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, and walking the middle path for families); Process Group Therapy; Milieu/Community Meetings (program open, mid-program, and close); Psychoeducational Groups; Relapse Prevention/Crisis Intervention Group; Behavioral Activation Therapy; Expressive Group Therapy (art and music); Social Skills/Empowerment Group; Independent Living Skills Group; DBT Multifamily Skills Group; and Weekend Safety Planning Group (PHP). Group facilitation responsibilities span both IOP (afternoon/evening schedule) and PHP (full-day schedule) as assigned. Provides family therapy as indicated in the individual treatment plan, engaging guardians and family members in treatment to support skill generalization, reduce family conflict, and strengthen the youth’s support system. Facilitates parent-youth process groups and DBT multifamily skills groups as scheduled. Adapts treatment modalities and group facilitation approaches in accordance with NASDD guidelines for youth with I/DD, including the use of simplified language, visual aids, concrete examples, and increased validation and praise. Develops individualized aftercare plans in collaboration with the client and family prior to discharge, including coordination of step-down referrals to outpatient or other community-based services, and ensures scheduled follow-up appointments are in place before program completion. Completes all clinical documentation accurately, thoroughly, and within timelines established by program policy, payer requirements, and Wayfinder standards. Documentation includes intake assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, group notes, discharge summaries, and aftercare plans. Ensures documentation meets commercial insurance authorization and medical necessity standards as the primary payer framework, with additional compliance with Medi-Cal documentation requirements as applicable. Coordinates with the utilization review process by providing timely clinical information to support insurance authorizations, concurrent reviews, and appeals. Communicates QualificationsEducation and Experience: A minimum of a master's degree in social work, marriage and family therapy, counseling, psychology OR a PhD/PsyD in counseling or clinical psychology from an accredited college or university is required. Current California licensure in good standing as a Licensed Psychologist with the California Board of Psychology or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences is required. Associate-level board registration is not accepted for this position. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred. A minimum of one year of clinical experience working with adolescents and/or families in a structured behavioral health setting (IOP, PHP, residential, full service partnership, or equivalent) is required Experience working with youth with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (I/DD) in a mental health context is preferred. Familiarity with DBT and CBT treatment frameworks is required.
