Job Title: Digital Arts Teaching Artist

Program: Digital Arts Lab – 16-Week Creative Music Pathway

Location: On-site (SPY Facility)

Schedule: Wednesdays & Thursdays, (3:00 PM – 5:00 PM)

Commitment: 4 hours per week for 16 weeks

Compensation: $31.25/hour

Contract Type: Part-Time / Program-Based Contract


Position Overview


Safe Place for Youth is seeking a passionate and experienced Digital Arts Teaching Artist to lead a

16-week Digital Arts Lab program supported by The Ally Coalition. This role will guide young adults

through the full music creation process, from production and recording to release and performance,

empowering participants to express their stories through original music.

The Teaching Artist will facilitate hands-on sessions that support creative skill-building, emotional

expression, and personal growth, culminating in a final showcase and the release of participant-created

songs on streaming platforms.


Program Goals


Participants will:

  • Learn foundational music production and recording skills
  • Create original music inspired by themes of healing, empowerment, and growth
  • Gain experience with mixing, basic audio engineering, and content presentation
  • Learn introductory marketing strategies for sharing music on social platforms
  • Perform their original work at a final program showcase
  • Release their completed song(s) digitally


Key Responsibilities

  •  Facilitate twice-weekly, 2-hour music production workshops
  •  Teach foundational skills in beat-making, songwriting, recording, and basic mixing
  •  Support participants in developing original songs from creative prompts
  •  Provide mentorship, encouragement, and constructive feedback
  •  Guide youth through the process of preparing music for digital release
  •  Assist participants with basic music marketing and social media promotion strategies
  •  Help coordinate and prepare participants for the final performance showcase
  •  Maintain a supportive, trauma-informed, and inclusive learning environment
  •  Collaborate with SPY staff to ensure program success and participant engagement
  •  Track attendance and contribute to basic program documentation as needed

Requirements

Qualifications


Required:

  •  Experience in music production, recording, or audio engineering
  •  Prior teaching, mentoring, or youth facilitation experience (formal or informal)
  •  Ability to work effectively with young adults from diverse backgrounds
  •  Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  •  Reliability and consistency for the full 16-week program


Preferred:

  •  Experience working with transitional-age youth or nonprofit programs
  •  Familiarity with DAWs (such as Ableton, Logic, Pro Tools, or similar)
  •  Knowledge of basic music distribution platforms and social media promotion
  •  Background in creative arts education or community arts programming
