About the Role As a Digital Recorder, you'll be responsible for capturing and preserving verbatim records of depositions and other judicial proceedings. Whether in-person or remote, you'll use specialized recording software and hardware to produce high-quality audio/video documentation. You’ll also administer oaths, create detailed annotations for transcription, and ensure smooth and professional proceedings. Key Responsibilities Accurately record legal proceedings using advanced audio/video equipment Administer oaths and maintain control as an independent authority Annotate essential testimony for transcription and playback as needed Manage and secure exhibits, backup files, and complete job-specific worksheets Maintain professionalism and build effective relationships with clients and legal professionals Perform timely preparation for assignments and respond to communications efficiently What You’ll Need Skills: Strong attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines, and excellent problem-solving skills under pressure Experience: Familiarity with court procedures, legal terminology, and digital recording technology is preferred Certifications: Ability to obtain a Notary Public license and AAERT's Certified Electronic Reporter (CER) certification Technical: Proficiency in Microsoft Office and touch typing (minimum 60 wpm with accuracy) Education: Associate’s degree in legal studies, communications, or audio/visual technology is a plus Personal Attributes: Self-motivated, professional demeanor, and adaptability to work in various environments Other Requirements: Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and the ability to pass a national criminal background check What Success Looks Like Producing accurate and high-quality audio recordings for transcription and review Demonstrating exceptional professionalism with clients and colleagues Exceeding quality control benchmarks and contributing to efficient office operations Work Environment This role involves a mix of office-based work and travel to legal proceedings (up to a 75-mile radius from your location). QualificationsREQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, OR ABILITIES Exhibit a courteous and professional demeanor with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with different roles within the legal community and the general public. Working knowledge of court procedures, legal documents, and legal terminology. Working knowledge of digital audio/video recording technology. Ability to obtain a Notary Public license. Ability to obtain and maintain American Association of Electronic Reporters’ (AAERT) Certified Electronic Reporter (CER) certification. Maintain a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and reliable transportation. Self-motivated, focused, attentive, and detail-oriented. Ability to plan work effectively, meet the deadlines assigned, and make sound decisions. Possess problem-solving abilities to resolve challenges. Ability to work under pressure. Capable of taking direction from more than one supervisor. Maintain regular and acceptable attendance, working at Esquire office when not at a job assignment. Demonstrate a commitment to Company objectives. Ability to pass a national criminal background check.   MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Proficient in the English language, ability to read and interpret documents and instructions with a good working knowledge of English grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Minimum touch-typing speed of 60 wpm with high degree of accuracy. Familiarity with computer systems and Microsoft Office Suite. Associate’s Degree in legal studies, communications, audio/visual technology, performance art, or military experience preferred. Experience as a legal secretary/administrator, paralegal, legal videographer, or legal transcriptionist preferred.   MEASUREMENTS OF SUCCESS Successfully meeting expectations in the performance of daily assignments. Produce quality audio for accurate transcription/translation. Ability to interact with clients in a professional manner and provide support to clients during the proceedings. Provide detailed and accurate annotations for transcript preparation. Exceed quality control checks on audio production, annotations, completion of worksheets and order forms.
