Department Summary

Research Policy & Compliance (RPC) provides leadership in shaping, interpreting, and implementing federal, state, University of California (UC), and UCLA research-related policies, procedures and guidance. The office provides the campus community with advice and guidance on matters related to the application of research policies, including those pertaining to conflict of interest, research misconduct, animal welfare and research safety, and other activities related to use of cannabis, as well as federal export control regulations. Some RPC activities, including export control-related responsibilities, extend beyond research and include other critical campus functions.
Position Summary

The Export Control Analyst reports to the Director of Export Controls and is part of the export control team. The Export Control Analyst supports the development, implementation and administration of the UCLA export control compliance program and other general compliance activities. Working with the team, the incumbent participates in license determinations on a variety of transactions, including deemed exports reviews for visa beneficiaries and visitors, shipments, travel, and financial transactions. The Export Control Analyst provides support to the campus community for complying with export control and sanctions regulations, including those administered by the Department of State, the Department of Commerce, and the Department of the Treasury. The Export Control Analyst should demonstrate good judgment and discretion, have excellent verbal communication and writing skills, be organized and reliable, and help the export control team resolve a wide range of compliance issues. The Export Control Analyst is expected to work independently, with limited supervision, consulting with the supervisor on non-routine actions or exceptions to existing internal procedures.

*UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications

  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills to ensure the effective exchange of ideas with a wide audience. (Required)
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships across the campus and with the UC Office of the President. (Required)
  • Ability to appropriately prioritize work in an environment of fluctuating workloads and changing priorities. (Required)
  • Discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality. (Required)
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and follow through on assignments to completion. (Required)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, web browsers, and electronic mail programs. (Required)
  • Internal/external audit, research administration, and/or compliance experience preferred. General knowledge of university business processes would be appreciated, but can be trained. (Preferred)
  • Knowledge of current export control regulations is highly desired, but can be trained. (Preferred)
  • Ability to conduct comprehensive, detailed analyses of complex regulations and to use good judgement in assessing situations and employing effective problem-solving techniques strongly desired. (Preferred)
